If you go to Sonic, I hope you try their fried onion rings. Love them. I seldom eat hot dogs, but I like the Sonic dog with chili, mustard, and onions.
When I eat there I revert to my teen years and throw caution to the winds. Good thing I don't eat there often.
Sonics are just starting to come to Michigan. I've heard so much about them. Especially some kind of ice drink?
Tonight's dinner is homemade pizza again.

nothing particularly fancy really... after a quick boil to get them al dente, i finish them off with ginger powder, black pepper, salt, light brown sugar and butter. i sometimes use fresh ginger, but we have a very good spice/herb store nearby and the powder's just as good with a whole lot less effort.

1 lb fresh spinach, washed, blanched, spun dried, and chopped.
1 lb fresh ricotta, drained
2 lg eggs
1/2 lb grated mozzarella
1/4 cup parmagano
2-3 cloves of pressed garlic cloves
some chopped parsley
some salt and pepper
Mix it all up, put it in your favorite pie crust (I like a lattice top, and use an egg wash to make it golden), and bake at 350 for 45min -1hr I test it at 45 minutes for browness, and with a knife into the center. It should come up just a little wet, but not soaking. Let sit for 1/2 hour after baking to set.
I'm breaking my 6 month long ban on pork tonight, because I was in Publix and they had Boston Butts on sale for $0.99 per pound. :) I know - I'm weak.

I've been using my NordicWare Microwave Tender Cooker a lot lately:

http://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Microwave-Tender-Cooker-Quart/dp/B0007LC55A
It's a pressure cooker. Works great. You can cook a pork roast or beef roast into a fork-tender meal in 50-60 minutes. Just season the meat, place it in the unit, throw a bunch of onions, carrots, garlic, etc. on top, pour in a 1/4 cup of red wine, and that's it. It will cook a small chicken in under 25 minutes.
Highly recommended.
I've been thinking of investing in a pressure cooker........I'll have to look this one up.

I made a ham for Easter last weekend. So Monday it was leftover ham for dinner. Then Tuesday was ham and scalloped potatoes. Then Wednesday it was split pea soup with ham. Thursday was ham and vegetable fried rice. Friday I made navy bean soup with ham. Saturday I had spagetti. Thank God!!

Baloney sandwiches with sliced pickles and lots of mustard. (My dog won't eat them.)
I've been thinking of investing in a pressure cooker........I'll have to look this one up.
I bought mine years ago for only $25, so shop around! eBay is a good source:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NordicWare-Microwave-Tender-Cooker-Manual-Directions_W0QQitemZ160421308285QQcmdZViewItemQQpt ZSmall_Kitchen_Appliances_US?hash=item2559dae77d
$6.00, $8 shipping, used once.
Here's a bunch more:
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=nordicware+tender+cooker&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Or you can buy direct from NordicWare, but it's a bit pricey:

No, this one is strictly for the microwave. But it will cook a small pork roast in just under an hour, a beef roast in just under 50 minutes, and a whole bagged bird in just under 25 minutes.
For my roast last week, the only thing I added besides the seasoned meat, was a half cup of Burgundy wine, 2 cut up carrots, a cut up onion, and a little garlic. It was delicious!
The only thing I have ever used a pressure cooker for is canning.......and it's a totally different thing. I see it used on the Food Channel a lot and my mother and mother in law both used them........I now have a roast in the oven.....still hesitant. I think I'll look more on the computer and see what the outlet malls have next time I go North.

ended up making a quick pan sauce as well - port wine, crushed fresh rosemary, beef broth, salt/pepper... the lamb came out good, although i'm not a big fan of lamb to begin with (made this one for the wife).. and, the veggies were good, although i think celery root's best when mashed along with a yukon gold.
don't have a damn clue what to make tonight.. i want to make this gazpacho, but it isn't warm enough for it.. i'm leaning towards something like chinese meatball soup or beef & broccoli. the wife seems to be demanding pad thai (just as she demanded yellow curry on friday).

Though the wife actually said she liked it, I could only manage about half a bowl of the gazpacho before I gave up and admitted it really sucked!!! YUCK!
It reeked of cucumber and slimy avocado oil, (I hate guacamole too!) So, I'd have to say, for my taste...on a scale of 1-10.. 2! (for the garlic toast!)

Depends on how you make the guacamole. Take a 1 pound container cottage cheese, one large ripe tomato diced (In season. not the hot house shit), a couple green onions (green only) chopped, one or two avocodos diced and a squirt or two of lemon juice.

I bought a similar set, Kirkland (Costco brand), a few year back. It's got it's good and bad points.
Good points is it's heavier weight and stovetop to oven friendly, which was a step above the Revere crap that my wife collected.
Bad points are it's not recommended for the dishwasher, and my sauce pan is really shot to hell from my monster whisking. When I really fire up the frying pan for a quick fry, and try to season it and wipe it down, I'm never sure that the black stuff is just something the dishwasher never caught or part of the unknown composition finish. It does give me some concern when I'm making pan sauces.
Compared to the Revere crap, I'm pretty satisfied. I never was able to dent the frying pan nor create that unremoveble crust when super hot frying, and like the fact that I can finish some things in a hot oven (especially chicken). If I were to do it over again, I really like that new heavy weight aluminum/steel/copper alloy stuff.

Thanks for the info on the Kirkland set - I was going to buy that.
I'm taking this set back to JCPenneys today. The small saucepan leaks at the left rivet, and the Dutch Oven wobbles on my flat glasstop, so I guess it's slightly warped.
I would just return those two, but I also found out the hard way that the lids and handles are not stay-cool. And I'll be damned if I'm going to grab an oven mit every single time I lift a lid or move a pot.
But I still recommend the 8" egg skillet, which you can buy for $14.99 - it's eggcellent!!!
So, sorry about my premature recommendation, folks!

yesterdays, however, we went back to one of our old faithfuls - shredded/braised beef short rib sandwiches on ciabatta and topped with brocolli slaw (spiked w/jalepeno). and of course, the au jous for dipping. it's damn easy to make, but is our favorite sandwich.

most grocery stores sell bags of broccoli slaw mix in the same area as cabbage mix. i've never actually shredded any of the stuff myself - easier to just buy the bagged mixes. the slaw is made from the broccoli stems, which are the tastiest part of the veggie imo (crunchy and sweet).
you make it like a normal slaw (i can post a specific recipe if you're interested). some salt, sugar, vinegar...

going to make a chorizo/egg burrito for breakfast/brunch this morning.
going to the fish market today.. hoping to get some whole trout and corn on the cob - grilling them both. definitely happy that corn's back in season. i usually grill corn by rubbing it down with butter and savory seasonings (paprika, cayenne, salt, pepper, nutmeg, garlic, onion powder, etc...) and wrapping it in foil. probably is no different than steaming, but that's just how i choose to do it.
There is nothing better than fresh fish and corn! I could easily turn into a vegetarian, if I had fresh vegetables all year round. Aspargus is now at it's peak here.......we've got a long way to go, before corn.

we recently bought a bunch of herbs and veggies to plant - it'll be way better next year after we buy a house. i'm definitely looking to grow as much as i can, when i can. used to grow corn when i lived with my parents in NJ. nothing quite like fresh picked corn - or strawberries for that matter.
When my dad was still alive, his garden was his pride and joy. I can go North to friends farms in the summer and get fresh vegetables, but they aren't the same. My son and daughter both have so many memories of grampa and the garden.....his way of getting them to pick strawberrries was, you're closer to the ground.....not many made them to the house though......which I can remember was my problem with green beans......love raw green beans!
My son now has his own garden.......and memories.

I try to waste very little in the kitchen. So if I have broccoli florets one night, I'll save the stems. For a slaw, I just peel the outter skin, and run them through the coarse grate on the food processor. If I'm not going to use them within a few days, I just dump them in the resealable bag, with other veggie scraps, and do a stock when I have time.
BTW, I love broccoli cheese soup, and those grated stems work greate as a base for it.

A few nights ago I put together an Indian "inspired" dinner.
3 chicken breasts - cut in bite size pieces
20 or so shrimp - peeled/raw
1 large sweet onion - cut in strips, thin
1 tbs sugar
1 tbs Curry
2 tbs peanut butter
1/2 tbs Garam Masala
1 teas red pepper flakes (well, I used over a tablespoon..but that might be much for most)
1 can coconut cream
Water (if needed)
Butter
Olive oil
Heat a bit of olive oil and 2 tbs of butter. Sautee the onion and the red pepper flakes until onion is soft and translucent. Add the sugar as onion is cooking.
Add chicken. Sautee/brown for 5 minutes.
Add curry and garam masala
Add coconut cream and stir.
Add peanut butter
If sauce needs more volume, or if it's too thin, add some water or chicken stock.
Cook for 10 or 15 minutes.
Add shrimp
Cook 5 minutes till shrimp is done.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Serve over rice.
Way yum.

unfortunately, no trout was to be found so jaz picked up salmon filet. i am a little tired of traditional pan seared salmon, so instead, i'm making salmon burgers with a lemon/chive aeoli. skinned the salmon and cut into cubes, tossed into the food processor for a few quick pulses - i wanted a slightly chunky texture. mixed with an egg, salt, pepper and bread crumbs, then left in the fridge to set up. the aeoli will have mayo, fresh squeezed lemon juice, chives, and a little bit of salt and pepper. toasted bun and some fresh mescaline from the garden.
Sure.....tell me now, while I'm almost to your house, that we're not having trout! I'm just going to turn around.....salmon is about the only fish I don't like, unless it's salmon patties, smoked, out of a can.......yes I said canned salmon!:nana:

last night was a pork/vegetable udon noodle bowl. it included thin strips of pork, garlic, ginger, soy, red chili, vegetable broth, scallion, red bell pepper, carrot, snap peas and udon noodles. squirted a little bit of lime juice in and topped with fresh cilantro from the garden (i held off on myself, since i'm not a fan of cilantro but the wife definitely enjoyed it). simple, healthy and was tasty enough.
tonight, putting some leftover grilled chicken breast to good use. going to pick up a loaf of fresh italian bread (wide loaf), topped with fresh basil, diced tomatoes, mozzarella and the chicken. sort of a play on caprese salad and pizza.. all done in the toaster oven to keep the house nice and cool.

just like you can get all sorts of dried pasta in the stores, you can also get dried noodles. for whatever reason, grocers typically stock all noodles associated with asian food (rice noodles, udon, soba, etc..) in the asian section of the store. egg noodles, by contrast, are typically stocked alongside pasta.
personally, i'd go for noodles over pasta any day of the week. egg noodles, wide rice noodles and udon in particular. udon noodles are thick and made from wheat flour and their thickness/starchiness makes them great for holding onto sauce/broth. they're the thickest of all noodles and are generally used in noodle bowls, with a healthy amount of stock - soup bowls for us westerners.

To use Louisiana Hot Sauce instead of Crystal.
Tonight I made fried chicken, collard greens and black-eyed peas with cornbread.

I just am now sitting down to eat.
Tonight I grilled a couple rib-eyes and topped it with melted blue cheese. With it I had twice-baked potatoes and mac & cheese.
Yeah, I'm hungry tonight. Haven't eaten all day.

What college do you attend and what are you majoring in?
And 10 cent wings sound like an incredible deal. Best I've seen around here is a quarter and even that is pretty rare. 50 cent wings are the norm around these parts. Then again I usually just buy 20 at Hooters for around 8 bucks or something.

What college do you attend and what are you majoring in?Northeastern University. Majoring in political science (law and legal studies concentration). I'm applying to law school in a few months.

Every Monday is 10 cent wing night and the place has 267 different beers, half of which are on tap. They give you a "passport", you drink all the beer, you get discounted beer for life and a custom mug.

Over a hundred beers on tap and dime wings? I'm thinking road trip.
There is this place around here called Old Chicago. There deep dish pies are incredible with thick, fresh toppings. But the real draw for me is they boast an imported bottled beer selection of over 100 beers. Their beer menu is divided up into different countries. I love going around the world on their menu until I can't physically convey to the waitress what my next selection will be.
I hope you get into law school and graduate. You seem like a bright kid who would make an excellent lawyer.

Tonight was burritos. Had some seasoned ground beef, refried beans, queso dip, sour cream and salsa.
In an hour I'll make a home-made shake. I got milk, ice cram and crushed Whoppers candy.

RECIPE!
I know of a roasted red pepper sauce whitch is made with a 12 - 14 oz. jar of roasted red peppers, 2 oz. heavy cream, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon sugar. Now. What about the soup?

i posted it up in the "show me your soups" thread. only alteration to the recipe was that i roasted the red peppers and used a good amount of black pepper.

making a frutti de mare tonight with mussels, clams, scallops and shrimp. i'm also going to roast 1-2 of our fresh beefsteak tomatoes to go along with the recipe - should be far better than the standard canned tomatoes that recipes call for.

Is there an eastern, northern or southern omelet?Okay, so it wasn't a "western omelet" it was egg and some stuff I found in the refrigerator. I had to call it something!
My Wife liked it, so it's all good.

I saw that. Interesting, but I don't have a clue as what to post. I figure grits and okra for a deep south omelet would have come up by now but it hasn't. Or maybe a crabcake omelet in beaten biscuit shell for the eastern shore.
