View Full Version : The Edwards Family Is A Class Act

Some things transcend politics. John & Elizabeth Edwards showed today what a class act they are by calling Tony Snow to wish him well in his upcoming surgery.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- White House Press Secretary Tony Snow received a call of encouragement Friday from Elizabeth Edwards after he revealed that he would undergo surgery next week to have a "small growth" removed from his lower abdomen.

Edwards, the wife of former Sen. John Edwards, announced Thursday that her breast cancer had returned and was treatable but not curable. Snow, a colon cancer survivor, offered kind words for the family at the Thursday White House briefing.

A spokesperson for the North Carolina Democrat told CNN that the couple called Snow this afternoon from the campaign trail to express their best wishes.

While acknowledging that Elizabeth Edwards at times will have to take a break from campaigning, the former senator said his pursuit of the Democratic presidential nomination would continue. ~link~ (http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/)

Yes, they are classy people. I was momentarily taken aback yesterday when Edwards announced he'd continue his campaign, because "leaks" had reported he'd suspend his campaign.

You meant "classless".

Edwards is the biggest scumbag of them all. First he makes a big to-do press conference for the sole purpose of getting the sympathy vote and boosting his poll numbers. If they get it he'll stay in. If he doesn't get a bump he'll bail out using her cancer as the excuse.

Yeah, real class act. Glad to see the neolibs haven't a clue about morals.

And tell me again why Edwards didn't drop out to be with his sick wife? Oh, that's right...he couldn't give a fuck about her. All that greedy ambulance chaser sees is power and greed. Everything else is secondary.

Any man with an ounce of dignity would quit his job to be with his wife in her biggest time of need. Did Edwards? Nope. Work is more important than his dying wife.

Great role model for everyone there.

Not if his wife didn't want him to drop out. I think you need to rethink your morals. If your wife wants you to continue, you continue. Dropping out against the wife's wishes is just as bad.

You are either not married or you are just being partisan about this because it is a dem. Another example of how much you will hate ANYTHING dem without taking a step back and really looking at the situation.

Great role model for everyone there.

Yes, he is.

It's all academic. Edwards has 0% chance of winning the lib ticket. All he's doing is showing everyone what a classless, disgusting, greedy lib he is. Not to mention a horrible husband and father. His family is facing their greatest challenge and he's more worried about votes.

Yeah, great role model.

How is he turning his back on his wife? Do you know the situation in their home? No, you do not.

I can very much as well say that you are turning your back on your wife by posting on an internet chat board instead of spending time with her.

What a heartless bastard.

Takes one to know one. Keep posting. We all are interested in seeing how truly mean-spirited and pathetic our resident neocons can be as well as seeing how low they can stoop.

.

My reasoning when the press conference first came out was he did it to stop shit like this from happening. I see now that was wrong. It seems if you don't like the man, then you can still use his honesty against him. At least have the decency to go after him on the issues and not a decision he and his wife made together and foolishly thought that people would understand.

Oh for the love of Pete.......she isn't dead yet and from the sounds of it, she won't be dead for a very long time. I'm begining to think that this may disappoint some of the right.

Great role model for everyone there.

Sure is! A man and a woman married for 30 years is really something....but then again, with the Republican candidates running, I imagine that they need a different role model.

.....but then, I see you don't have an opinion on Edwards and his wife calling Tony Snow and wishing him well.

She wants him to keep going; she made that clear. She still has a chance of life, why should they crawl away and not realize dreams and goals?
I would do the same for my husband.
I applaud them both, and too bad some people have to find fault with a strong couple making a very personal decision about their own lives...in public.
As was pointed out before, if they had not done this and the media had found out about her illness, it would have been even uglier for both of them.
Gaahh! Leave them alone and wish them the best!

Not the point. Also not neccessarily what she means. She's the wife of the biggest liar on the planet. Pardon me if I don't take her at face value.

The bottom line is he is putting work above his wife and family and that's wrong no matter how you spin it. If my wife had cancer there's nothing in the world that would keep me away from being with her.

What a dirtbag. Definitly off of my vote list. No morals...don't get my vote.

And how do you know this? Does it ever occur to you that SHE wants this for her husband? You say he is putting his work above his family, but if SHE wants him to then why is it wrong?

If my wife had cancer there's nothing in the world that would keep me away from being with her.

And if your wife's wishes were for you to continue running, you would just ignore her and dismiss her request? Nice Husband.

LOL you have no idea what her or her husband talked about yet you claim he has no morals, classic. Conservatives are always ASSuming things.

Sorry Stoner, I have to laugh at the fact that you think you know how a Democrat's mind works.......not to mention a woman's mind.

The bottom line is he is putting work above his wife and family and that's wrong no matter how you spin it. If my wife had cancer there's nothing in the world that would keep me away from being with her.

If I'm not mistaken, she travels with him, so how are they kept away from each other?

Come on, like you were going to vote Democrat to begin with?!

Sounds like a lot of crocodile tears are being shed over someone they are pretending to feel sorry for. Why do Republicans care if Edwards and his wife decide to spend their time campaining instead of wasting away in a hospital bed? Should Tony Snow quit his job because his cancer has returned as well?

We're talking about Elizabeth Edwards, not Laura Bush. Sorry.

So you ARE voting a straight Democratic ticket in 2008. Way to go!

What makes you so sure of how Edwards feels about his wife?Â*Â*What makes you sure they didn't discuss this issue at length and that he has continued with his wife's blessing?Â*Â*What make Edwards power and greed motives any different than any other politician, right or left?Â*Â*What motivates you, if not power or greed?

I got in trouble the last time I answered that question about Stoner but if you hang around long enough you can figure it out.

Edwards is doing exactly what his wife wants him to do: run for president. No amount of whining from the rightwingers or complaining conservatives will change that. Power to him.

Stoner

It's really a mute matter. He has 0 chance of winning the lib ticket. So...who gives a shit?

When he gets his ass handed to him he can go back to those $400 haircuts and carry on with his ambulance chasing screwing innocent families out of their retirement savings so he and his client can get rich off of frivelous lawsuits.

We should all be thankful Edwards has no shot at winning. Extremely thankful.

Like I said, no amount of whining from the rightwingers or complaining conservatives will change the fact that he is running for president. Most of us can see past the rhetoric of bashing trial lawyers and personal habits to the truth of his convictions about wanting the best for the nation as a whole.
