This poll is about the use of, or at least interest in, alternative currencies. There is no doubt that the US Dollar stinks, and looses its value year after year due to expansion of the currency supply (inflation). What alternatives do you use, or would be willing to try? I mostly use the Liberty Dollar (http://www.libertydollar.org/) myself, but eGold/eBullion and other "eCurrencies" are also popular, as well as some regional alternatives.

Wow, that was constructive. And coming from someone who hot-boxes away his wages every day! (JK)

Dude, that's not hot-boxing...hot boxing is when you get 4-5 friends and all sit in a car with the windows rolled up and toke some endo.

Ok, now I feel like shit for hijacking your thread.

Carry on.

I suppose this isn't the distinction you were looking for, but I use mostly plastic. A hundred dollars will last me a month or more as walking around money. And I pay off my credit charges every month.

I would assume that this means you're using Federal Reserve Notes as the actual medium of exchange, buck. I use my debit card for large/on-line purchases, but I try to use cash when possible in order to maintain my privacy a bit more. Credit cards can be tracked way too easily, especially since 9/11. Also, there's the ID theft issue. Incidentally, you can get a debit card for your eGold account from various third parties. There are some small transaction fees, but you have the benefit of real money that doesn't inflate, plus some added privacy. You simply use the debit card connected to your eGold account to withdraw funds in the form of cash at any ATM.

On a similar note, the latest Liberty Dollar newsletter came out. It includes a short, easy to read piece by Bruce Champ of the Cleaveland Federal Reserve Bank about the history of money in the US: http://www.libertydollar.org/commentary/pdfs/1170878323.pdf. It's only a few pages, but it does provide a lot of interesting information.

Note to stoner: I know what hotboxing is, I've done it before.

I recently published an article for a privacy newsletter about alternative currencies. If you want to check it out, simply go to http://libertarianactivism/com/writings/privacy-newsletter/privacy_newsletter-the_case_for_cash.doc
