Republican "family values" rears it's ugly head again! I wonder what the utility lobbyist sleeping with this guy (he's vice chair of the utilities committee) gets for her quid pro quo?

Duvall, speaking to a relatively mum Republican colleague seated to his left, apparently had no idea his dais microphone became live beginning about a minute before the start of a cable-televised committee hearing. He was captured in the middle of recounting portions of an affair.

"She wears little eye-patch underwear," said Duvall, who is married with two children. "So, the other day she came here with her underwear, Thursday. And
so, we had made love Wednesday--a lot! And so she'll, she's all, 'I am going
up and down the stairs, and you're dripping out of me!' So messy!"
That line may quickly become part of colorful Sacramento political lore. In the meantime, it leads me to a question: Can someone please buy the assemblyman a box of condoms?

Duvall--who was twice a president of the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce, served two terms as mayor of Yorba Linda before entering the assembly in
2006, and is the owner of an insurance agency--continues his tale: "So, I am getting into spanking her. Yeah, I like it. I like spanking her. She goes, 'I know you like spanking me.' I said, 'Yeah! Because you're such a bad girl!'"
He then laughed.

In April--two months after Duvall became vice chairman of the Utilities &
Commerce committee--privately owned California utility giant Sempra Energy hired Barsuglia as one of its top lobbyists, according to Secretary of State
 records.
Barsuglia, who has a law degree and once worked as a speechwriter for
Governor Pete Wilson, had previously worked at the California Retailers
Association (CRA). During 25 months of work at CRA, she reported that she incurred no reportable lobbying expenses. She joined Sempra after the
departure of another lobbyist: David Hayes, who was named deputy director of the Interior Department by President Barack Obama.
The San Diego-based utility conglomerate (created in 1998 by Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric) isn't shy about lobbying
lawmakers for favorable treatment. This session, they gave Duvall $1,500 in campaign contributions. In May, the assemblyman officially adopted the company's negative view on Assembly Bill 64, which proposes increasing the percentage of electricity the utilities must procure from environmentally
 sensitive sources.

Oh, well, I guess that's now part of the job description for lobbyists. "Eye patch underwear required".......

Let's just hope she doesn't get pregnant and this guy doesn't have to convince one of his good friends and aides pretend to be the daddy, or have to pay her off with campaign funds by buying really piss poor videos!

Family values in politics - Republican or Democrat - ain't what they used to be, or are they? Seems to me they've always been pretty much anything goes unless you get caught. Still, it's pretty damn stupid to talk about one's indescretions like this. Not only is this guy a cheat - he's a scuzzy cheat to boot!

Well - there is that. Of course telling the story in the first place indicates to me that the guy is a bit *cough* short on the ermmmm uptake.

republican "family values" are just wonderful. What is it with these self-righteous asses that think it's OK to tell everyone else what they ought to do? Later we discover these people are the kinkiest, freakiest, and self-destructive people. They are hypocritically the most sexually repressed people around.

Isn't that kind of contradictory? Are they kinky, or are they repressed?

I kept waiting for the argument based on evidence and it never showed up.

But the thing is democrats generally don't vote for these things, Republicans do.

If I get up and talk about the economy, equal pay for men and women, abortion rights etc., and then cheat on my wife, there's nothing in my political positions pertaining to that issue. If I get up and talk about the important of a mother and a father, oppose same sex marriage, go on and on about the traditional family etc., and use that as a reason to vote for me, then my behavior undermines my own positions.

Nobody voted for Clinton because he was a caring and loving husband and family man. With the exception of John Edwards I can't think of any major democrat who received a large amount of votes for that, or who made that centers of their campaign. Republicans do though.

Well, now he's claiming he never had the affairs, but resigned.

So, I guess in the "family values" crowd, it's better to brag and lie then it is to actually be spanking your Mistress.

http://www.duvallforassembly.com/resignation.html

Assemblyman Duvall Denies Reports that he Had Affair

"I want to make it clear that my decision to resign is in no way an admission that I had an affair or affairs. My offense was engaging in inappropriate story-telling and I regret the my language and choice of words. The resulting media coverage was proving to be an unneeded distraction to my colleagues and I resigned in the hope that my decision would allow them to return to the business of the state."

Statement from Assemblyman Mike Duvall
regarding his resignation from office today:

September 9, 2009
"I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly, who are working hard on the very serious problems facing our state. I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work."

He actually didn't claim that he never had the affairs. Simply that his resignation should not be taken as an admission of such. So, technically, not a lie.

I think his lawyers are already advising him of the potential legal trouble coming if he admits to having affairs with lobbyists. He has to know every reporter within 100 miles is trying to link votes and favors to these affairs.

The guy who was listening to him was on the ethics committee:

The legislator who lent an open ear to ex-Assemblyman Mike Duvall's graphic descriptions of sexual trysts has been removed from the Assembly Ethics Committee, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass' office has confirmed.

Assemblyman Jeff Miller, R-Corona, was taken off the committee, which is investigating Duvall's actions. The inquiry stems from a tape of a July Appropriations Committee hearing in which Duvall can be heard bragging to Miller about having sex with two women.

Duvall, who is married, announced yesterday that he would step down, but issued a statement saying his resignation is not an admission that he had an affair.

Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego, has replaced Miller on the panel, Bass spokeswoman Shannon Murphy said.

First of all, there is no such thing as "Republican family values"

There is such a thing as family values, which anyone can have and promote. Even fail at.

True. Family values is a meaningless term other than to describe the beliefs that pertain to how you see, understand etc. the family, but it is a term that holds meaning in the political world, and has certain connotations. A particular brand of it has been adopted by the GOP, which include traditional gender roles, opposition to same sex marriage etc., things that run counter to my "family values".

To me, while I would probably have used conservative, Republican is a way to indicate what you mean by family values. We all have them, but the connotation in todays political climate is of a particular type.

Nothing wrong with a little spankeez. But big, big problem with self-righteous right-wing douchebags who take it upon themselves to lecture others about sexual mores and then decide this gives them license to do whatever they want.

Yea, "family values" is political code for anti abortion, anti gay, abstinence, etc.

Like "choice" is political code for baby killing.

"Immigration" is illegal aliens.

"Patriotism" is supporting war.
