A sure sign Easter is coming. Peeps are on the shelf. It's either a love them or hate them kind of thing, so which is it?

I love them.........but they have to be stale.

I used to like them. But they're made with marshmallows, which are made with gelatin. Gelatin is made from boiling animal bones, skin and cartilage. So, I'm gonna have to vote no.

I love peeps! I cannot wait for easter to get a box or two. This may sound a bit odd, but I like to let them get a little stale before eating them. They are more chewy that way.

I love them and hate them. Every year they sound absolutely delicious to me and I wind up looking forward to them, and every year I eat one box and then can't even look at them again until the next spring. I have the same thing going with Cadbury Creme Eggs - one egg per year does me just fine (the newer caramel eggs are different matter, though.)

Zo, this is not usually the case today. Most gelatin is made from seaweed! ;)

Gelatin is like lard. It refers to a particular item made with particular ingredients. Agar Agar is made from seaweed, and most things do not use agar agar. Jello, marshmallows etc. use gelatin with few exceptions. About the only time they don't use gelatin is when their is an intent to make their product vegan.

gelatine (a colorless water-soluble glutinous protein obtained from animal tissues such as bone and skin)

Agar Agar: A vegetarian alternative to gelatine made with seaweed.

marshmallow (spongy confection made of gelatin and sugar and corn syrup and dusted with powdered sugar)

Another product that is occasionally used as a vegan or vegatarian substitute is guar gum.

Hmmm.......how to describe a Peep.......they are usually in a bunny or a chicken shape, so it makes it more fun to bite the head off. They are made of marshmallow with tons of colored sugar on them. They come packaged together, like Siamese quadrouplets and you can surgically seperate them, or just rip them apart, depending on your mood, or how long since you last had one.

Hate em, don't like marshmallow. The texture not the taste.

Dare I admit that I have no idea what a peeps is, much less what one tastes like? From what I hear, my life may be better for being ignorant on this topic.

Well, I took an extra shot of insulin and ate a whole box! Didn't even wait for them to get stale.

Buck, you need to at least try them once. They are terrible for you, but oooooooooohhh so good.

We tried to make a bong out of a Peep once. Didn't work out so well. Apple bongs are great and a lot easier. Orange bongs are the ultimate, though.

Slightly off-topic but speaking of candy try taking M&Ms and put them in a sealable tupperware container and submerge them with rum or your favorite liquor. Rum tastes the best. Seal them up and let them sit for a few days. Chocalate is great at absorbing liquid.

After a few days the M&Ms should have absorbed all of the rum.

Eat and enjoy!
