View Full Version : *sob* Vilsack Calls It Quits
DES MOINES, Iowa - Democrat Tom Vilsack is abandoning his bid for the presidency after struggling against better-known, better-financed rivals, citing money -- the so-called "invisible primary" -- as the only reason for getting out of the race.
Vilsack left office in January and traveled through states holding early tests of strength. He had faced a tough challenge from rivals such as New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and John Edwards, who have had more success raising money and attracting attention -- even in Vilsack's home state of Iowa.
Vilsack was the first Democrat to formally enter the 2008 race when he announced his candidacy in November. He conceded at the time that he faced a difficult race.

Even though he strayed from his moderate roots, he was pretty explicit about his views on Iraq:
Vilsack has been among the more aggressive Democratic candidates in his call to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq, calling for Congress to cut off funding.
If the Democrats win in 2008, look for Tom to get a cabinet post. Secy of Energy or Agriculture, I predict.

I still can't figure out why he got in the race in the first place. He certainly had to know that it was a hopeless endeavor. You could make the argument that he didn't expect or intend to win - he just wanted to influence the debate. That's an entirely understandable possibility, one that politicians do occasionally, but in that case, why is he dropping out so early, almost before the real campaigning starts in earnest?
It seems like the whole thing was a pointless waste of money on his part.

Well...I don't think anyone thought Dean would get as far as he did..maybe he thought starting early might get him early grassroots support.Â*Â*Obviously whoever handled his campaign didn't do all that well. I never even heard of this guy.

Yeah. The "D" before his name should have told him that.

Really? Didn't seem to have a problem getting many republicans out of congress with a "D" in their name. Maybe you are confusing that with an "R".
Funny... Stoner makes no sense no matter whether he is sober or stoned.
Vilsack couldn't compete in raising the money. Party affiliation had little to do with it.

Vilsack couldn't compete in raising the money
That's bullshit.Â*Â*That's the story he fed to those ignorant enough to believe it.
No, the real reason he dropped out is that early polls were showing that he had no shot what-so-ever.Â*Â*Funny how to steps down shortly after these early polls.
Hell, he was polling 4th in freakin Iowa.Â*Â*His home freakin state.
Which meant he couldn't raise money to compete. Shove yer bullshit.

2. Can't raise enough money at home eh?
3. Maybe he can rob the girl scouts or boy scouts!

The bottom line is the "no money" talk was bullshit. If he was polling very well there would be no talk of this.
No-sac is just a dumbass who never had a chance and finally took off his lib-glasses and saw that.
So he pulled out, gave a garbage reason and the kool-aid-left bought it hook line and sinker.

If he was polling well, I imagine that he'd have little trouble raising money. That's basically the way it works - your fundraising capability tends to be directly related to what people consider your odds of winning. Very few people like to donate money to someone who looks like a loser, especially the big donors, who usually look at their contribution as an investment for future opportunities.
The biggest problem our election system has is the continuous self-reinforcement of that cycle: getting some popular support directly leads to donations, and the donations are then used for advertising which, if spent well, increases your popularity leading to more donations. Repeat until election day. Its extremely hard for someone 'outside the circle' to make themselves noticed enough to be able to break into that cycle. That's pretty much why our current president's name is Bush, and our next president's name is going to be Clinton...

yeah, yeah, yeah
You know everything, everyone else knows nothing because the doobie told you so.
He wasn't polling well and the money dried up so he had to pull out. Like you really gave a crap what the reason was anyway. Go light up another bowl, take the edge off, and come back next year. Us adults want to have a serious conversation without Marijuana Man interjecting his nonsense.

Currently with those voting machines that have no congressional regulation. I don't see Democrats taking any more presidential elections until congress steps in & fixes it. & I've been saying it for a long time but whos say theres going to be elections for 2008 for President. I'm expecting Bush to crown himself Ceasar!
