A New York man accused of trying to help terrorists in Afghanistan has donated some $15,000 to the House Republicans' campaign committee over three years.

Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtari pleaded not guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to charges that include terrorism financing, material support of terrorism and money laundering.

From April 2002 until August 2004, the man also known as "Michael Mixon" gave donations ranging from $500 to $5,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to Federal Election Commission reports and two campaign donor tracking Web sites, www.politicalmoneyline.com and www.opensecrets.org.

----------

A resume listed in his name and posted on an MSN group Web site on Jan. 8, 2007, identifies him as being an "industrialist and philanthropist" and references previous connections to the Republican Party.

The resume says that in 2003 Alishtari was named a National Republican Senatorial Committee "Inner Circle Member for Life" and was appointed to the NRCC's "White House Business Advisory Committee." The resume also says Alishtari was named the NRCC's New York state businessman of the year in 2002 and 2003.

So, can we put to rest the debate about which party supports terrorism? :P

Couple of major flaws with your "article".

1. He isn't a terrorist. At least not proven in court yet. He's pleaded not guilty and hasn't had a trial yet as far as I can see.

2. Republicans have no way of knowing who this guy is.

3. If they did know about his alleged past they surly wouldn't have accepted any money.

Nice try. You'll have to do better.

You just described the vast majority of supposed terrorists we're holding.

Just remember, they're only guilty if they're NOT supporting republicans. :D

Perhaps you should look at the many similarities between radical Islam and the far right. He most likely agreed with many of the policies of the republicans.. ie: abortion, gay rights, forcing their beliefs on others, etc.

Probably far more important than that is that Bush has been Al Qaeda's best recruiter, by far surpassing Bin Laden. I mean, just look at Iraq: a country that just a few short years ago was essentially devoid of Al Qaeda, but because of Bush's policies, now large sections of the country are all but completely under their control. Afghanistan is once again essentially under control of the Taliban, but this time with far more public support. Pakistan's semi-moderate government is teetering on the brink of collapse to radical Islamic elements. Iran, a country who's leadership was extremely weak, almost ready to collapse just a few years ago because they were considered too extreme for most of their population is now enjoying strong support. Hamas is now in control of Palestine.

Seriously, is there any reason for terrorists NOT to support the Republican party?

Would you say the same thing if he wasn't a republican?

Of course he wouldn't. He would blame it on the Liberal Media if he had to dig the news up himself, however.
