Calling it a 'cure for blindness' is very much overstating the stage at which this field is at. The cameras they're using are EXTREMELY low-resolution - the few people who have undergone the procedure already can basically just make out some rough shapes and shadows. Its far from anything you could actually call being able to see - they're still well within the bounds of 'legally blind'. Still, its better than tripping over the couch, and this field is still a young one. Its probably going to be a few more decades before artificial vision is able to get anything near to human-level vision, though.
