View Full Version : New Car! *edit* Someone hit my new car!

Just purchased my new car wednesday night. It's a 2003 honda civic ex coupe, paid only 9.5k for it. According to carfax the dealer had it on his lot for 5 months. The original sticker was 12.9, then it dropped to 10.9 and I got it down to 9.5k. I looked at a few more places after being quoted this price and a dealer at another dealership actually said "I can't believe you didn't buy that immediately" while I was looking at a car they were trying to sell me. After I went back and purchased it I asked the salesman about the car and was told it was about to be auctioned off to another dealership since they were having such a hard time selling it. He said they figured they'd get about 9.5 there. As a rule I don't believe salespeople, but at this point the car was sold and the price was amazingly low, so it makes sense. Though the fact that it was at a subaru dealer probably played a role in why it sat there for so long.

Just to make sure something wasn't wrong with it (the price did give me cause for concern) I took it down to a garage to have them check it out and it's fine.

All in all seems like a great deal. The mileage was high (55k when I was looking for the mid 30's-40's), but the price was 2-3k less than anything I could get in the mid 40's, and looking at carfax this car seems to have mostly highway miles, as opposed to harder city miles for the other 2 I was looking at. Getting a 2003 or 2004 civix for under 12k in this area is near impossible, and blue book value is about 13k.

Here are the pics (they're from the dealers site), it's very clean both inside and out, with everything working. Has a sunroof, abs, keyless entry etc. The interior is also black, even though it looks grey in the pic. That's probably due to the lighting:

The other car I was looking at was a 2003 civic ex black couple with spoiler. While it was nicer looking (I love black cars) and had 45k miles, the lowest they'd go was 12.2k, and the spoiler was in my line of sight when I looking through the rear window (seemed much higher than cars typically have it), which made me concerned about the safety of it. Just wasn't worth it for the price difference. The dealer showing me that car was the one who said he couldn't believe I hadn't bought the silver one (the one in the pic and the one I eventually bought) ont he spot.

Maybe your whole fiasco was a blessing in disguise. A silver lining possibly? Or a silver Honda actually. The car looks great.

That is one good looking Zomobile! :D

Thanks. It's nicer than what I thought I would get. I started looking at higher prices after seeing everything in the 8-9k range being around 60-80k miles and they were all pretty much corolla's (was looking at civic's and corolla's). The corolla just didn't feel nearly as stable at highway speed than the civic, and, looking at car reviews, didn't perform as well on ice and snow.

I didn't really want to spend much more than 100 a month for the car (this comes to about 120, after the 6k from my insurance) for 3 years, and paying 12k would have increased that and meant I'd probably have to go with a longer period (4 or 5 years)

Though, unfortunately, since my accident also involved a ticket, the double hit on my insurance is going to hurt.

Zomobile

Wonder if I can get a bumper sticker that says that?

Not to put a damper on your new wheels but the Honda Civic is one of the most stolen cars in the country. You knew that, didn't you? Better buy a good kill switch system.

I was looking at buying a remote starter/security system for the car. It had nothing really to do with the security system, but I like the idea of not burning in the summer and not freezing in the winter (as well as the heat from the car having time to melt the ice on the window). The alarm isn't that much more, so I was thinking of going with that.

Though why are civics stolen so often?

You are in luck Zo. Woot has a cheap alarm today that looks pretty cool. It can't hurt right?

I'm not sure but I think it's because the used part market is so lucrative and the Civic security system isn't too hot. That's why I think you need a secret kill switch so that if they do boost it, they won't get more than a block or two before it quits on them.

My guess would be for the parts. There are a lot of honda civics out there and the parts themselves can be sold separately for a whole lot more than the car put together.

Someone hit my car! I picked up my new car monday. On thursday night it was fine, and on friday I went to work, then after work I went to starbucks, whole foods and a mall. When I got home I found that someone had hit the back right of my car. I have no idea where or when it happened on friday. The bumper was pushed forward a bit, so it was no longer fully aligned with the main part of the car on the right side. They had broken part of the bumper, resulting in an inch long gash. And about a square inch of paint came off, which is very noticeable since the material underneath the paint is black and the paint is silver.

I took it down to the place where I've had body work done before and he says it will cost about 300 to fix. I can't decide whether to do it. I normally wouldn't be that concerned about my car being dented, but I've had the car less than a week! I may spend part of my tax return to have it done. I filed it a week ago so I should get it back in a month or so. It just drives me crazy that I can't even go a week without my car taking damage.Â*Â*:(

Oh Zo......that's really sad. It sounds like they hit it hard enought to know what they did too. What ever happened to personal repsonsibility?

Are you getting much snow by you and if so, does your state use salt? I wouln't leave it too long, if they do.

Oh that sucks. This is why I buy cheap used cars. We have a $32k dodge grand caravan that has so many nics and dents in it that I don't even care anymore. My neon is in pretty good shape but a dent here or there isn't gonna kill me. Sucks to pay what you did and have the car for only a week just to get a freaking dent by some idiot that can't drive.

As a general rule...I never park by pickups or SUVs in my car. I normally park far away. People pulling in and out of spaces often hit other cars and then just leave without saying shit.

Unless they changed the definition of "new" you bought a used car.Â*Â*2003 isn't new.

And please tell me a woman picked this car out for you. Please tell me there aren't actually men in this world that look at a Honda Civic and say, "Well this car looks great!"

Some people consider other things when buying a car. Idiot.

I thought about getting a Prius for a little while but they are just so ugly that no possible MPG could make up for it.

The first thing I look for in a car is that it's not a Honda Civic. It's not the worst car ever made. There was the Gremlin afterall.

I'm not getting that much, but it's new england, so more is likely. They use sale, what effect does that have on the car?

new(a): other than the former one(s); different; "they now have a new leaders"; "my new car is four years old but has only 15,000 miles on it"; "ready to take a new direction"

So you don't like low mpg, very reliable, good safety rating cars. Ok, what's your choice?

I thought about getting a Prius for a little while but they are just so ugly that no possible MPG could make up for it.

I wanted one, but it was out of my price range. The only thing I found that I could afford was a 2001 with 140k on it.

Somebody already hit the new Zomobile?

Sorry to hear that Alonzo. It's pretty sorry that someone would actually hit the car and not leave a number or contact for insurance.

I guess it is christened now so you shouldn't have to worry about that first ding, its there.

Salt will eat the car out with rust. Is it undercoated?

Alonzo

I don't know how I'd know if its undercoated. But the bumper on most cars are plastic, not metal, so rust shouldn't be an issue. My 98 camry was that way and so is this car.
