Who is the biggest draft bust?

For me this is a no-brainer with Ryan Leaf. Tony Mandarich is a very close second.Â*Â*

Curious as to what you all think.

Tought call, Leaf is obviously up there, as is Vinny Testeverde [I love the guy but hindsight says he's no 1st pick overall], Jeff George is up there...But I'm going with Steve Emtman, defensive tackle out of Washington, taken by Indy in 1992...Who's Steve Emtman you may be asking...Exactly.

In Emtman's defense he was riddled with injuries during his short NFL career.

Testaverde and George one of the biggest busts ever? Are you kidding?

From those comments and the ones you made about Manning in another thread I am seeing exactly how much you really know about football.

Testaverde and George one of the biggest busts ever?Â*Â*Are you kidding?I kid you not.Â*Â*Testeverde [again, who I love] is among the all-time leaders in TDs, yes, but he is also among the all-time leaders in interceptions, anyone who's followed his career [he was a Jet for 4 years] could tell you he was not first pick overall material.Â*Â*As for Jeff George, is their some success of his that I'm missing?

From those comments and the ones you made about Manning in another thread I am seeing exactly how much you really know about football.Condescension in aÂ*Â*"Lounge" forum? Spare me Stoner, I am not here to make you believe that I'm knowledgable about the game of football, I know I am.Â*Â*I disagreed with you twice, that does not mean I am ignorant, a very arrogant implication.Â*Â*As for Manning, what I said was that he has been inept when it comes to beating solid teams, he was, up until yesterday, I stand by what I said.Â*Â*In addition, I was the FIRST here to compliment him and the Colts after their win [which, btw I enjoyed every minute of].

On edit: I was also under the impression that we were discussing only first picks OVERAL, not Draft Busts in general. In which case I would have a hard time choosing anyone other than Akili Smith.

I'll disagree with Test.Â*Â*Yes, he may have thrown a decent amount of INTs, but check out the rest of his stats!

A bust...

Is it someone who did not live up to the hype of having just one good college year?(Akili)

Is it someone who had a career cut short by injuries? (Emtman, who since you asked had an outstanding career with the Huskies - see someone remembers him!)

Is it someone who may not have started all their career with one team, but did last for a number of years, and had a couple of good ones (Jeff George and Vinny)

is it someone who could not live up to the pressure daddy put on him since he was a kid?Â*Â*(Tony Mandarich)

No.

A bust is someone who was so thouroughly hyped that they could not fall past #3 in the draft (even if their college carrer was not that outstanding).Â*Â*Someone picked high, and not only played poorly in the pros, but refused to acknowledge he may have been the problem.Â*Â*Someone who had such a horrible time on and off the field that a city had to suffer through nearly 5 years of backlash from drafting said player and said backlash caused other #1s to not even want to play for the city in question!Â*Â*Someone who is so immature, they isolated themselves from their team in the shortest amount of time.Â*Â*Someone who had such a large ego, that no matter how bad they played, it was always someone elses fault.Â*Â*Someone, who when he retired, the NFL asked 'can you retire after only two years in the league'?Â*Â*Someone who was so bad you cannot sum them up in one sentence.

Yes, a total bust is Ryan Leaf.

Agreed, Tush, as I said, for some reason I thought we were talking Number One Overall picks only. If we're not then it'd be hard to argue with Leaf or Tim Couch for that matter.

Ah, finally, a football fan who knows what he's talking about.

Welcome aboard.

Lol. Stoner, seriously dude, you're going to have to get over yourself, I disagreed with you, it's not a big deal and it's liable to happen once or twice on a debate site.
