What is your favorite of all the wars?Â*Â*

Personally I have always been a huge Revolutionary War buff as well as a War of 1812 fan. The Civil War and the Napoleonic Wars are also favorites.

What's yours?

Can people really answer this?

I never actually thought of war as being fun or having a favorite one. It is kinda like asking me what my favorite way to die would be.

That's my favorite. It was a trade war but still one over drugs has to be kind of cool...better than oil at least.

I'm going to assume this was meant to say "What is your favorite war to study" and I am going to go with the Korean War. Being stationed in Korea for 6 years total, it was always something I could research there with the population quite well.

I voted Other because no war is my favorite.

Of course that is what he is talking about.

I find World War Two to be the most interesting because my grandfather fought in the Pacific. It gives me a personal connection to all the stories and footage. Especially when I catch a glimpse of his ship or hear it mentioned. Thats kind of cool.

World War One stuff is interesting because its neat (and horifying) to see the way technology evolved much faster than the tactics.

Korea seems a dark and desolate war. Fought in bitter cold, almost forgotten.

I find Vietnam interesting because it was a war where we won every battle, yet could not win because our government tied our soldiers hands. Everytime we had a cease fire or suspended bombing in good faith because of negotiations, the enemy would rearm and come back stronger. WE STILL HAVENT LEARNED THAT LESSON.

I can watch Ken Burn's documentary on the civil war over and over.

Revolutionary War history is interesting because frankly, I still cant figure out how we won.....A combination of luck and audacity maybe.

Gulf one is interesting because I had many friends involved. It was a perfect example of how a war should be fought. Though it made us overconfident for.....

Gulf two. Which while the blitzkrieg to take the country was amazing, Too many mistakes have contributed to the difficulty in keeping the country under control.

I voted World War II. I really love it, there are so many angles and crazy people (Stalin, Hitler) and still unsolved mysteries.

I also like the Russian Revolution and the French Revolution.

Anyone into the Napoleonic Wars? Always found that fascinating.

I find the US Civil War period pretty interesting.

I don't have a favorite war. They all sucked in their own special way ;) That said, I find the Amer Rev and Civ War to be the most interesting. Technically speaking, the "American Civil War" is a misnomer. It was really a war of secession. Civil War implies that both sides want to take power over the same jurisdiction.

I chose the civil war, but WW1 and 2 also interest me a lot. Periods of history when there are no wars are boring to study.

Well, they both wanted power over the south.

I have always been a WWII buff. In school I drew all the British and American bombers and fighter planes. WWII brought about huge leaps and bounds in technology, which was a good byproduct of a bad thing.

I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.
5-Star General of the Army - Supreme Commander Allied Forces Europe - President of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower

Perhaps this says it best. However, regretfully, wars are a necessary evil of mankind.

Anyway, I chose WW II for a very specific reason.

America as a country, and Americans as individuals sacrificed greatly for the common good. And during this time in our history, we were the UNITED States of America - and that hadn't happened since the Revolutionary War, and hasn't since.

Today it's the mantra of me, me, me - and it's my right, etc. instead of for the benefit of America as a country.

That's a very good point, Alonzo! If you were a comparative politics analyst and you were looking at the same activity in some other country, you would say that the Confederacy was a separatist movement. Civil Wars are labels usually reserved for cases when both factions are vying for control of the one original center of power.

Revolutionary--it's the only one Americans can really be proud of
