Should Moussaoui be executed for his crimes?

In my view he should be jailed.Â*Â*In the Muslim world those that are killed fighting for Islam are martyrs and get their virgins reward in heaven.Â*Â*I think he should be denied martydom and imprisoned for life. The death penalty is not appropriate.

He however, had intent to kill. He said he wanted to crash a plane into the white house and kill as many americans as possible.

Technically, he didn't kill anyone though. So I doub't he would get death.

Even if I supported the death penalty, I don't think it should be used for people who didn't order a murder or actually carry out one. By denying knowing of an attack, which he knew would lead to deaths, isn't enough in my mind.

If Moussaoui was part of the plot, then technically he is just as guilty as the actual perpetrators. I agree that he shouldn't be made a martyr, but if he's imprisoned for life there is always the possibility of hostage taking to try to effect his release.

Al qaeda didn't seem to think very highly of moussaoui to begin with. He doesn't seem to have been involved in the plot, he just may have had knowledge.

Though if they were to hold hostages they have much better people to do it for, and much better reasons. Moussaoui is the least of their concerns. There's no risk of any hostage situation that involved moussaoui in particular, at best his name could get thrown in with a group of prisoners with him being relatively insignificant. Though I find that unlikely.

I see his defense team is using the "don't make him a martyr" argument to spare him the death penalty. I wonder how long he'll last in prison if he spouts the "kill all Americans" line, though. Probably be some redneck willing to take him out.

8May 2006: Well, now that Moussaoui has been convicted and sentenced to two life terms without parole, he has decided to withdraw his guilty plea on the basis he lied in his testimony, hoping he will get a new trial. Poor fool didn't listen when the judge told him he cannot appeal a federal conviction after sentencing, although he can appeal the sentence. She also added that appealing the sentence was unlikely to succeed. I think it's time to put Moussaoui behind us and get on with the trials of the other terrorists, relegating Moussaoui to the footnote in history where he belongs.

The problem is that they're trying him for the 19 hijackers that actually flew the planes and he really didn't do anything wrong. Was he a part of the conspiracy? Probably, he admits to that. Did he actually kill anyone? No. Did he actually fly a plane? No. The worst part of this is the biggest complaint is that he didn't tell anyone about the plan before it happened.

And I suppose no one heard of the CONSTITUTIONAL right against self-incrimination either. He had no responsibility whatsoever to tell the FBI anything, yet they're trying to put him to death because he didn't violate his own rights.
