it is very strange that Washington state does not have a senator. So unfortunate it is that its residents have been denied this chance simply because they are the capital in which the White house is located. during Clinton's adm, a proposal was brought forward in favor of inclusion of Washington in congress representationbut when republicans swept to power in 2000, the idea was shelved. this is really sad in the most democratic nation in the world!!

The white house is not in Washington state. It is located in Washington D.C. (district of columbia). Washington state has 6 senators I believe.

This is hard to explain to non-U.S. residents.

Washington D.C. was purposely set up as a non-affiliated city state. It was one of the balances early American government set up. They did not want to give any single state an unfair weighting advantage over another. Therefore the national capital was not allowed to be in Virginia, or Maryland but was independent of both.

As I recall, it was clinton who allowed the "taxation without representation" license plate for DC residents.

The state of Washington, like every other state, has only two senators.
