According to a resolution passed by the city council today, the City of Coachella will become a safe haven for immigrants, both legal and otherwise. This at a time when the Senate is preparing to vote on a proposition that would make undocumented immigrants into felons and would make it possible for people with legal status to become criminals.

Coachella Mayor Jesse Villarreal got up and walked out of the meeting when the Safe Haven resolution went to a vote. His absence gave two votes to the majority, passing the resolution, which gives peace of mind to residents.

"What it means is that our local police will not be an extension of the border patrol, that our people in the community will sleep in peace."

HR4437 is a bill making its way through Congress that would make undocumented immigrants felons and legal immigrants criminals if they helped undocumented immigrants.

The City Council of Coachella approved Safe Haven, which would allow residents and illegal immigrants feel secure and comfortable here in the Valley.

Today, local residents we spoke to were appalled at the law being considered by Congress and don't like the assumptions it makes of immigrants.

"It's going to be a tragedy because it's racial profiling and aimed at Latinos and so I think the city council did something to really support the population that lives here. I think it was a great move. They should be congratulated.

I don't think that's right. They come here and they're the ones that work. That's the reason there's groceries, there's everything because they work.

The resolution is about the safety of Coachella residents. By not allowing this law to be followed by the city, people will not be in fear of law enforcement and immigrants will have a sanctuary.

This is one of those nice liberal feelgoodisms that means absolutely nothing.

Their law cannot and does not supercede federal and state law.

It's just a joke passage like the kooks on San Francisco declaring their city nuclear free or those morons in Santa Monica that want to appear senssssssitive to the homeless with their meaningless declarations.

So typical of liberals; let's sleep on street grates for the night so we can show solidarity with the homeless, let's climb a tree for a week to prevent it from being cut down, oh noes, a spotted owl is living in the "A" at K-Mart don't go change the burned out light bulb you're disturbing the nest. I think my favorite liberal act of abject stupidity were the fundraisers they did to buy the homeless shopping carts.

"I love you man, I feel your pain. I'm not going to assist you in sobering up, making sure you're diagnosed for mental illness and institutionalized or put on medication. Instead I'm going to give you a grocery cart so you can have the quality of life any decent homeless person should have."

Moronic stupidity at its finest.Â*Â*But now they're senssssssssitive.Â*Â*They care more than you.Â*Â*See that cloud overhead?Â*Â*It's a dangerous gathering storm of smugness.

Well, the city is essentially preventing its police from enforcing the law. I think there is some reason for it, but I wouldn't go that far. What I would want is to enact a law that states no one who reports a crime to the police, is the victim of a crime and therefore approached by the police could be picked up for an immigration violation that was discovered because of that incident. This will help stop incidents of people being mugged, robbed etc. and not alerting the police.

Currently the laws seem to aid dangerous criminals since illegals are often afraid of reporting them.

Though I remember a group that attempted to steal a bunch of grocery carts to give to the homeless, but when the grocery store was alerted of what the group was about to do, the store just gave them to the homeless. Damn liberal grocery store.

Illegals are not the reason Americans have groceries. Many others would really like to do the work offered by the illegals.
