It's a weird concept, so go with me. A board for social news, stuff that doesn't neatly fit in elsewhere. Things like gay marriage, health news, population growths and such. Not front page enough to be a current event but still news.

Thing is, there are some threads that will always fit in better elsewhere, depending on how the discussion is panning out.

E.g, the gay marriage thread started out as a recent event, then turned religous. Should we have moved it to the religion section? No. lol.

IMO, the current events section needs treating, it is being treated as a general section more than ACTUAL events happening currently. If you know what I mean.

So im agreeing with you to an extent. lol.

Hmm...I view those as current events mostly but also off-topic. The site is about debate and inevitably threads are arguments. Off-topic however allows for general posts that don't fall in line with debates.

Great idea.

Topics such as abortion, homosexual marriage etc etc would all fit in nicely in a social news forum.

Still, I think Off Topic fits that bill. It's being used as a dumping ground for threads that probably ought to be PMs (like where to go on a cruise, etc.) but it ought to work for the social issues if you just start posting them there.

Horrible idea. We have more than enough categories as it is. I don't want to see this forum turn into one of those sites you see that has a gajillion sections and it takes you a day and a half to figure out which post goes where.

There's more than enough now.

Why am I not surprised that you get confused by detail, Stoner? Heh.

But I must agree that fewer categories looks better on the front page...

Yes I personally think a well structured site where posting is fairly obvious is important.

I also think Current Events up near the top is really the overall umbrella for any debate that's not elsewhere...especially if it's current news.

Current Events
For the serious discussion on the latest happenings in the news please post in this forums.

I think Social News falls into that category if it doesn't fall elsewhere.

Gay Marriage is a civil rights issue unless there is some overall religious overtone to the thread...like "Falwell protests gay marriages"...something along those lines.
