Dallas lawyer Darrell Jordan officially kicked off his campaign for the Dallas mayor on October 19th 2006 with a speech at the Dallas Zoo, followed by another near the DART station at Park and Central. Jordan mainly addressed the issues of public safety, economic development, quality of life and bridging divides in the city of Dallas. The city of Dallas is generally considered as one of the most unsafe and dangerous places in the United States. Jordan proposed assigned more and more cops in the city to check the ever-increasing crime and drugs business.
Jordan suggested more funds especially for the South Dallas development and commercial and economic development to take the burden of property taxes off the shoulders of homeowners. Regarding improving the quality of life, Jordan proposes more long-term planning and more working with energy providers for sustainable energy. He added that as Dallas grows there would be an imminent need for better mass transit and more strategic thinking in town planning. Jordan addresses another disturbing issue when he speaks of bridging the racial and regional divides in the city and bringing a more civil and inclusive tone to the Dallas City Hall.
Jordan emphasized that the mayor of Dallas is the single, most powerful, positive catalyst for change and economic growth in the city. Jordan assures his supporters that he is well equipped with the skill, temperament, negotiating ability, the vision and the patience that the job demands. He stressed his interest to work with people and cited his experience in bringing people together for a common cause.
