Taking a cue from Askates, I'll make this one a poll too :)

The segment appeared on "Tempe StreetBeat," a program produced by police in the Phoenix suburb that followed several officers on patrol. It shows Sgt. Chuck Schoville pulling over two men in August in a mall parking lot.

He first asks for a name and ID from the driver and then asks the two men if they know how much the fine is for littering.

The officer then tells the men that they can avoid getting a littering ticket "if the two of you just do a little rap about - what do you want to do a rap about? Littering? About the dangers of littering."

The two men agree, and each performs a short rap, laughing afterward. One says, "The dangers of littering, you will get a ticket. If you ain't wit' it, you better be experienced."

I think it had a little to do with their race but more to do with their clothing. You wouldn't ask a black man dressed in a suit to do a rap. I don't think this is a very big deal, after seeing the video the kids were laughing and joking around the whole time. There are certainly bigger issues for anti-racism groups to focus on.

Seemed like a silly request but I think he had good intentions. Maybe he is one of those relaxed people that don't take everything so seriously.

What the heck? Talk about PC! :)

I think punishments such as this are better than fines/jail/etc. Someone might learn something, and it saves resources for things that really matter, like rapes and murders.

I voted somewhat because I don't think he would have asked a white man to. At the same point, the men were laughing and no one took it very seriously. And to be honest, they would probably rather rap than get a ticket. I would.

A woman I babysit for, her husband is a police officer. When he patrolls the neighborhoods he comes across gang bangers who peddle drugs. He gives them a choice, either they give him the drugs, come down to the station, are booked, jailed, tried; ect or they give him the drugs and do 50 push ups. Most men choose the push ups, and are grateful for no long term trouble.

Classic case of some journalist taking something to seriously, if anything the journalist is racist for immediately thinking that the cop was racist. The journalist is being more discriminating than the cop.

Alright let's say it was a white guy...maybe someone that said they just came out of the marines...and the cop asked him to do 100 push ups...would that have been a problem with anyone? I am not sure how rapping makes the cop a racist...all just so silly. When the cop asked the guys where they from they said Chicago and he asked what they did and they said rappers. Honestly...you can see in the tape there was no malice anywhere.
