This place is widely believed to have had one of the world's first universities. It was a place of learning, and even today the local scholars boast a well preserved collection of ancient Greek texts which in the middle ages were transcribed into Arabic, Hebrew and other languages to preserve and disseminate the knowledge. One of the Universities was built in 1581 and is still standing to this day, and still a University! This University was built upon the ruins of a yet older University.

This is a 16th century Ottoman-Turkish bridge also brige was same named with the city.
The bridge was destroyed by Croatian Defence Council units during the War, on November 9, 1993. Slobodan Praljak, the commander of the Croat forces, is currently on trial at the ICTY for ordering the destruction of the bridge, among other charges.Consequently, a project was set in motion to rebuild it, and the new bridge opened on July 23, 2004.

This beautiful city grew from humble beginnings. First settled before 3000 BC, it was mostly thatched palm frond housing with the rich families able to live in mud huts. However, starting in the late 20th century, like most areas in the region it has boomed.

Where Am I?
This carribean island has been owned by multiple countries like most in the region. It was the site of a very significant early slave rebellion in the 1700's. The slaves took control of the island for six months but were eventually defeated. Rather than be captured and re-enslaved, the last of the rebellion committed suicide on a southern peninsula of the island.
It is mostly national park, but has about 5,000 residents and is a popular but less-traveled vacation destination. There is no airport on the island, but you can fly into a nearby island and take a ferry over to it. It is infested with wild donkeys, and the snorkeling is sublime.
When the power goes out, exasperated tourists ask when it will come back on. The locals reply, "Whenever they fix it. Welcome to _______."
