Gay Republican Mark Foley took time away from his "rehabilitation" for "alcoholism" *cough* to attend his "father's" "funeral".
Gay Republican Mark Foley apologized to his “family” at the funeral, but only in general terms.
Gay Republican Mark Foley, who notably is gay and like many others is also a Republican, did not mention his molesting of young boys specifically. It is still unknown at this time if the boys are also Republicans.
This is the article about Mark Foley, one of the many gay members of the Republican Party.

Foley Expresses Regret While Attending Father's Funeral
(AXcess News) Miami - During a tearful eulogy Saturday, ex-Representative Mark Foley expressed regret over his actions that lead to his resignation while attending his father's funeral in Florida.**It was Foley's first public appearance since he resigned from Congress over questionable e-mails he sent to an underage House page.
Foley flew in from Arizona where he has been hold up in a rehabilitation facility for alcoholism.
An emotional Foley apologized to his family for the shame he brought upon them, saying to his deceased father as he choked back tears, "I'm sorry for having disappointed you."
Foley, noticeably choked up over the death of his 85-year-old father, an ex-Marine who died Tuesday after a long sickness from cancer, attended Mass with his family and then accompanied them to Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach Sunday where his father was buried, ending a two-day funeral.
Thursday, Florida state investigators opened a criminal investigation into Foley's e-mail communications with an underage Page following a preliminary probe to see if Foley's actions warranted charges.
Heather Smith, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, confirmed that a criminal investigation had been launched following a preliminary probe.
"We've established there is factual and credible information or evidence that a criminal violation may have been committed," said Smith.
Foley, a six-term Florida congressman, resigned his seat in late September after public disclosure he sent sexually explicit electronic messages to teenage boys who had worked as congressional interns.
Congress and the FBI launched investigations in addition to the Florida probe.
Foley's attorney, David Roth, said that the former Congressman himself had been molested by a Priest as a child and suffered from alcoholism, which prompted his client to enter the rehabilitation facility in Arizona two months ago.**But despite Roth's attempt at moving the attention away from Foley, which indirectly put the cause of his abuse on his own childhood problems, Florida authorities moved forward with their probe.
Many Republicans regarded Foley's scandal for having given Democrats so many seats, having been exposed right before the midterm elections.**Foley's seat in Florida, once assured to remain in control of the GOP, went to a Democrat.
Florida's criminal investigation centers around Foley's e-mails to the underage House Page, which Smith said may have originated from within the State of Florida making them fall under Florida criminal statues.

no where in that article does it say he's gay. we all know that plenty of heterosexuals molest boys so that cant be where you are getting that information, maybe if you said pedophile republican mark foley, the way you word it hes apologizing for his homosexuality, not the fact that he is a child predator(which is weird cause that sounds worse to me)

the way you word it hes apologizing for his homosexuality
Sorry. Let me clear that up:
Gay Republican Mark Foley is not apologizing for the fact that he is gay or a child molester or for the fact that he is a child predator.
My understanding is that the Gay Republican Mark Foley, one of many Republicans who is gay, is apologizing for the pain caused to his family due to the fact that he is gay, a child predator, and a child molester. Strangely, he did not apologize for being a Republican.

If hes apologizing for being gay. i guess that proves hes a republican, but no where does it say anything about the content of the apology, also no where does it state that he associates himself as homosexual, it sounds like you are making that assumption, it however does state that he was molested by a catholic priest....hmmm

His attorney already told us this, in the wake of the scandal.
but no where does it say anything about the content of the apology
Hard for me to say. I only half-ass read it. *cough*
And askates, I would thank you to stay on topic. In case you could not tell, this is not about how well I read the articles I post and whether or not I'm just posting this to be an asshole, this is about Gay Republican Mark Foley, one of many homosexual Republicans who are Republicans and gay.
Please don't even start about the handful of Republicans in congress who are not gay, that should be a separate thread.
Again, lets review:
Mark Foley, Republican, Gay, Gay Republican Mark Foley, child molester, Republican.
Gay. Foley.
Republican.

I haven't said much about it lately, but the tolerant left is making an awful lot of noise about Foley being gay. Nothing good can come from this.

Personally, and I surely don't speak for others here who may be considered left, I'm only medium tolerant. (especially when it allows me to make some fun over gay Republicans who are both gay and Republicans)

sorry i forgot how timelessly funny it is to make fun of gays, especially when you are not one and you dont have to hear your sexual orientation affiliated with pedophilia

I don't have a problem with gays. I have a problem with closet gays that speak bad shit about gays while they are gay themselves. That's hypocrisy.
The problem with Foley is not that he is gay, it's what he did.

I agree. You can be gay without molesting boys just as you can be a heterosexual man without raping girls.
I don't have a problem with him apologizing to his family. He is saying that he is sorry that his actions are causing them grieve. He isn't apologized for his lifestyle. He is just saying he wishes they didn't have to bear the brunt of it.
but the tolerant left is making an awful lot of noise about Foley being gay.
This may draw some criticism but I am going to post it anyway. I agree they shouldn't harp on it anymore. It's already in the news, police have started an investigation. Now it's time to move on. Staying on that and using it to smear the other party is low and not something the Democrats should do. Other parties might, but we shouldn't sink to their level.
it however does state that he was molested by a catholic priest....hmmm
I don't care. Two wrongs don't make a right. Yes it is something to consider when dealing with him and his psyche. But that in no way frees him from any responsibility for his actions.
Hitler and Stalin were both beaten in their childhoods. They both had physically and emotionally abusive fathers. Does that justify their actions?

I'm not making fun of gays. I'm making fun of the many gay Republicans who are amongst us being Republicans whilst at the very same time being gay.

You do realize that gays can be Republicans? Just because you are gay does not mean you can't be a republican. There are gays that are against abortion and do not want to force their lifestyle on others in the form of gay marriage, that support Bush's tax cuts, Iraq war, and want to be fiscally conservative. To say that a gay cannot be a republican is not knowing what really the republicans stand for.
Unless of course you are saying that Republicans are Gay Bashing Bigots? Is that what you are trying to say?

I have purposefully NOT commented on this to let the ringing of the hypocrisy speak for me.

Well, it's not only that. There are continious remarks stating (or suggesting) that Foley is a pedophile. There's absolutely no evidence to suggest he is and, unless a bunch of pre teen boys are hiding in his closet, I doubt there will be.
Scoring political points is usefull and necessary for getting your people, and your views on what this country needs, in power. But continously making a connection between gay foley and children simply reinforces the stereotype that homosexuals are more likely to molest children, something which both psychological and sociological studiesand the left argue against. Reinforcing such a stereotype, even if its often indirect and unintentional, is harmful to homosexuals.
There's a fine line here between exposing unethical, criminal activity and scoring necessary political points (pointing out corruption, that fact that an oppononent of homosexuality is gay himself), and harming the very causes which most liberals support.

What is hypocritical about a secretly gay man supporting the political platform of a party that is clearly anti-gay?

.......but you see the fine line that Foley crossed, was writing a bill against internet preditors and then breaking it.

See that is where I differ in view. I don't think the Republican party is anti-gay. I haven't heard any prominent republicans calling for homosexuality to be illegal.
I think the majority of the anti-gay people are Republicans, but I don't think that the majority of Republicans are anti-gay.

Santorum: AP: I mean, should we outlaw homosexuality?
SANTORUM: I have no problem with homosexuality. I have a problem with homosexual acts. As I would with acts of other, what I would consider to be, acts outside of traditional heterosexual relationships. And that includes a variety of different acts, not just homosexual. I have nothing, absolutely nothing against anyone who's homosexual. If that's their orientation, then I accept that. And I have no problem with someone who has other orientations. The question is, do you act upon those orientations? So it's not the person, it's the person's actions. And you have to separate the person from their actions.
AP: OK, without being too gory or graphic, so if somebody is homosexual, you would argue that they should not have sex?
SANTORUM: We have laws in states, like the one at the Supreme Court right now, that has sodomy laws and they were there for a purpose. Because, again, I would argue, they undermine the basic tenets of our society and the family. And if the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything. Does that undermine the fabric of our society? I would argue yes, it does. It all comes from, I would argue, this right to privacy that doesn't exist in my opinion in the United States Constitution, this right that was created, it was created in Griswold — Griswold was the contraceptive case — and abortion. And now we're just extending it out. And the further you extend it out, the more you — this freedom actually intervenes and affects the family. You say, well, it's my individual freedom. Yes, but it destroys the basic unit of our society because it condones behavior that's antithetical to strong healthy families. Whether it's polygamy, whether it's adultery, where it's sodomy, all of those things, are antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family. .......
SANTORUM: I've been very clear about that. The right to privacy is a right that was created in a law that set forth a (ban on) rights to limit individual passions. And I don't agree with that. So I would make the argument that with President, or Senator or Congressman or whoever Santorum, I would put it back to where it is, the democratic process. If New York doesn't want sodomy laws, if the people of New York want abortion, fine. I mean, I wouldn't agree with it, but that's their right. But I don't agree with the Supreme Court coming in.
