For years, it was an open secret at North Dallas' Preston Hollow Elementary School: Even though the school was overwhelmingly Hispanic and black, white parents could get their children into all-white classes. And once placed, the students would have little interaction with the rest of the students.

The result, a federal judge has ruled, was that principal Teresa Parker "was, in effect, operating, at taxpayer's expense, a private school for Anglo children within a public school that was predominantly minority."

-----

The judge also had sharp words for the district's attorneys, who argued that segregation would cause no harm to the minority students because their teachers used the same curriculum as those teaching white students.

"The court is baffled that in this day and age, that [DISD relied] on what is, essentially, a 'separate but equal' argument," the judge wrote.

When they "desegregated" my elementary school in the early 1960's, this is exactly what they did. They put the new (read: black) kids into separate classes with separate start times, separate recess times, separate lunch times' and separate dismissal times. The only time we knew they were around was when the same troublemakers showed up at the principal's office the same time I did. Ack!

Hard to believe, huh?

This crap goes on in Alabama, also, where parents will pitch a fit if their child gets stuck in a class with many Hispanics who are not good at English, for fear that they will slow down the class for everyone.

You just can't trust school administrators to do the right thing. And for some reason, they tend to think they can do whatever they like.

Except when it comes to being reasonable, then they have to make absurd decisions due to imagined liability.

I have a low opinion of school administrators, myself.

Segregation is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm from Taxas, it not all bad.
I dated Black Women for a long time in taxas and It not even the same as when I was 10. But its fear of not being better, fear of others doing something you can't do.

I grow up in a town of 300 people we only had 3 Black Kids that went to our school, I knew of other Black People who lived in San Antonio.
Thats where my Frist Girlfriend was from, I was 4 or 5 and she was Black. My Mom Brother Sister and most every one hated that I liked Black Girls. But I said "I don't care what you like, I do not you want to like or not to like. So back off".

I was my right and choice to do so, I had long hair and was a leader of a Rock Group and Singed Hard Rock Music.

But I think if People are going to hate they will have no matter what race they are.

I know a lot of People who say the "N" word, and I tell them very Quick it is wrong.Just like I know people who say they are Christian and Say the "GD" word. All I can do is hope they stop.

First, I must say I hate racism and segregation. There's no reason to discriminate against someone based on the color of their skin, and considering how much its preached to us, I would think people would have gotten the picture by now - forty years after we desgregated public buildings. Now, at the same time people need to learn our language. We need to be tolerant, but we don't need to entirely change our customs to fit the needs of a slight minority. Personally if this country ever made Spanish it's primary language I would be forced to move. So desegregation needs to work both ways.

Second, I didn't know anyone "dated" when they were 4 or 5.. or even ten.

Freedom of association is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, which includes the right to discriminate. I own a business and I'm sick and tired of having to fight lawsuits because I refuse to hire people of different ethnicities.

Europeans have dominated the entire world since 1500. It's not a coincidence.

Here's a good way you can prevent such lawsuits:

Hire candidates based on ability, not melanin.

Well that's honest. I give you that.

But businesses determine the ability of people to get jobs, obviously. If not hiring people only effected you or your social life then you'd be right. But considering it's the difference between having an income or no income it's a very different issue. It's not the same as what social group you belong to or what friends you have.

Well if you stop being a racist and start hiring people based on skill then you won't have that problem.
