If people are going to start a thread with a news article, could there be a rule that they actually add some commentary of their own to spur a debate? If my memory serves me correctly, this is a debate forum, not a 'news' site. If we can just post links to articles without any substance of our own, we can just start a new thread everyday with a link to cnn, fox, or any site we want.
Just an observance and suggestion.

Yeah I agree. More should be added to a new thread than simply a quote from a news source. However this normally does spark discussions. It's a tough call. How about just those that do this try to add a bit of their own opinions to their posts?

How about you make the call? This is your board is it not? :D
Or at the very least discuss it with the mods. Have a few beers over it and make the call. BTW the best thinkg is to make the call RIGHT AFTER THE BEERS.......oh wait.....I mean that is the most INTERESTING call after the beers that is hehehehe.
I can see where a mod might post something to get the discussion started but I have always posted an opinion with an article. I always bring the PROOF to back up what I am saying. Beers or no beers.

I haven't noticed a problem with just posting an article. I sometimes do it because I'm in a hurry, I have to get it work but I want to get it out there.

I post articles to try and get a discussion going. It usually works pretty well.

Professor and Boogyman, I hear your point, I guess an underlying theme of mine was if you just post the article, how do I know what your opinion on it is unless you say something? That is all, I am not trying to start a huge debate here. If I was, I woulda just linked to an article. :)

I did make a call on this..a rule isn't needed. There really is only 3-4 people that do this anyways.

I sometimes post a quote from an article with a link and no real commentary because 1) sometimes, especially if the link is from my own blog, I'm presumably already making a "comment" by posting it here in the first place, and 2) sometimes a brief quote from a post or article is all that's needed to get a conversation going.
