1. Mod at several forums, and a very active member at PSPF, as many of you may know.
2. I am very open to all views of government. I know a lot about how the US Government runs and am always looking to answer any questions.
3. At least 20 hours a week.
4. 15, but do not judge me by my age. I have been studying the US Government for 6 years now, ever since the 2000 elections. I am very active in political discussions.
5. I am unafilliated, because I do not like to be judged by my political status. However, I tend to like the Democratic views over other ones.
Thank you.

1 = Previous moderator status
2 = I carry a cool head.Â*Â*Everyone has a point, some are sharper than others.
3 = Depends on the ammount of traffic that we see.Â*Â*I just freed up some time.
4 = 32
5 = Currently registered as a libertarian, probably switching to an independant or democrat depending on how I feel this fall.

1. Your previous experience.
I have been active in three different debate forums, but due to time restraints (college) I had to cut out one, and the other was unmoderated, so it frequently turned into flaming games and unsupported points, which I will not do. My current site outside this is www.volconvo.com as dthmstr254.
2. The reason you feel you would be good for us.
Open-minded and consider myself still learning. I can consider every supported point, and know what it is like to be on an un-moderated site (not fun). I can also work for free whether or not you switch to paid status. I am also working on an online magazine which gives me a good head for research. To link it, here you go:
http://www.tagworld.com/dthmstr254/World/MyWeb.aspx?page=af353a70-5c7d-4913-b4a4-41ea665b48a5
Surfing around that blog will also bring you to my biography of schooling and working.
3. The amount of time you could assist us per week.
My schedule is ephemeral, but I can devote blocks of time to moderating and will email or PM my schedule to you so that there are no complications.
4. Your age (this is important).
18, born in 10/14/1987
5. What is your political party? (optional and only asked so we can get a diverse set of moderators)
I vote generally Republican, but I consider myself a Constitutionalist/Christian. I am conservative.

1. I have ran other sites and forums before and would love to get back into the political net game.
2. I love history, have many courses in it and just love current events and debating.
3. Normally between 5 pm and 9pm during the week, weekends varies.
4. 29
5. I am a registered Democrat, but there are some issues, where I cross party lines, I would say I tend to be a middle of the road type, who votes on the issues, but my last ticket was a straight Democratic one.

1. No previous moderator experience. I have been a member of many forums for quite some time. I never looked into being a moderator until I signed up for this site.
2. Unlike most applicants, my main goal will be to patrol the boards and field any complaints or questions. I really just want to keep the forum clear of debris and trollers.
3. The time will vary from week to week. I can contribute at least a few hours each day.
4. 25
5. Republican.

You're going to love this. This is a hoot, but it's TRUE, I swear.
1. I was a SuperModerator in a huge forum, and I got tossed because I accused a Moderator of using PMs against members. He would PM members he didn't like, and splash their PMs all over the boards to use against them. I feel PMs do NOT in any way, shape, or form belong out in the open, otherwise they would NOT be "Private" Messages.
Little did I know this Moderator was related to the site owner.
Out goes the cat! I was told to shut up and mind my own business. I do want to make it clear I brought this privately up to the site owner in PM and I never said a word about it on the public forum. That would have been wrong.
They seemed to think this was okay, that anyone in a political forum is fair game and anything that is said, is said. I said they were wrong. OOoooops LOL!
My second foray into moderation was being made an administrator of a friend's forum. One day, someone started posting stuff about how we should join Al-Quada and I thought he was being a dork, so I ignored it for 2 weeks until the members started raising sand and looked, and thought, "Oh, my." I snagged the guy's IP and info, tracked his IP with a program I have, and called a buddy whi is in the NC SBI and asked his opinion. Gave him everything, he called the next day, informed me this guy (in Egypt) was on the Federal Watch List and that was only one of the IP addresses he used. So, rather than provide him an outlet for more garbage as he was posting, I recommended shutting the site down and he agreed that it would be a good idea. So I called my friend, who agreed, and shut it down. No one wants to be part of anything possibly disastrous, willingly or no.
LOL! Two strikes, one to go!
Reason I feel I'd be good for you?
Uh, well....
Geez....
Sometimes I can be funny and I try to be fair and when stuff gets a little hairy I try to temper it with common sense and good humor. I never want to offend anyone, but my skin has gotten QUITE a bit thicker about that. If I were to become upset or get in over my head with a member, I'd walk away and leave it in another's hands, and let cooler heads prevail if it got that bad. I've done it before, and others have walked away and left stuff up to me, so it goes both ways for the best for the forum. That calls for teamwork, I think.
I am also a good watchdog -- and housebroken -- and if there is a problem, I can usually spot it before it becomes major. Unfortunately that's a LOT harder to do on the computer than in real life, but I'm learning.
Life is just too short to get upset. I love to debate politics, but rules are rules, and no one should be exempt from those rules. So I try to be diplomatic and get my point across gently. It works with kids. Why not here? Kindness goes a long way, too.
Time I can give:
It varies from 2 to 4 or five hours Monday thru Friday, 3-4 hours per day Saturday and Sunday, if that's ok. I work a lot and I'm writing a book. I also need "down time" with hubby and family so I can get back to myself after long weeks at work and all the mess that entails.
Age:
OLD. VERY OLD. I'm 45, retired Army, and probably NO fun. I have lived overseas and seen a little bit in my life.
Political party:
Independent. Have been registered both Republican and Democrat, and can probably be best described as a moderate. I'm active in local politics and trying to make a difference.
What a mess, huh? LOL! Thought I'd try, anyway. I like this place. I think I'll go hang out here, if no one minds. LOL.

Just a question, can we, the members of this forum, recommend someone or vote on it if we think on of the ones that applied would be particularly good?
Professor.......I don't see why not as long as it doesn't turn into a bashing thread, but right now we're pretty well set after adding Boogyman. Don't want to have more moderators than posters.

1. Your previous experience.
I don't have any previous experiance as a moderator but I have ample experiance as a poster. I've posted on 6 or 7 different boards with different topics. I've never recieved any offical warnings or been banned.
2. The reason you feel you would be good for us.
I think I would be good because I am able to take things with a grain of salt. I can read a topic that has gone haywire, go read something else to cool off and come back and be cool. I've seen oppurtunities for sarcastic comments and not said them. I am also a strong believer in rights for all, so I would not favor one party over another. I have a good sense of humor.
3. The amount of time you could assist us per week.
It varies day to day. Thursdays are crazy for me, but I'd say an hour a day easily.
4. Your age (this is important).
I am currently 21, I will be 22 in April.
5. What is your political party?Â*Â*(optional and only asked so we can get a diverse set of moderators)
Currently a democrat but I've been known to side with the elephants.

My first big question... what does it pay?:D
I won't answer any of the questions falsely. If there's any questions concerning my 'experience', I'll be happy to provide you with accurate 'contacts'.
1. I was a Mod at another site. I gave up that Mod job and active participation because the site was run by a bunch of PC wussies.
2. Hmmmm... I have a low bullshit tolerance level. I tend to whack the nails (posters) that become a pain in my arse.
3. A couple of hours here and there. I stay pretty busy but will make time if my forum work is appreciated. ;)
4. I'm 38, divorced one red headed German 'ball and chain', remarried a crazy asian lady and have a little 28 month old son. That pretty well qualifies me to have my own supervisory position in hell.:D
5. I tend to associate myself with ultra-conservative people. Personally, I refer to myself as an ultra-Nationalist with conservative leanings. IOW, I hate pretty much everyone equally.;)

1. I am admin of my own small board (started it in June 2005).
2. I am a staunch conservative and this forum really needs another conservative moderator to level out the playing field a little.
3. I am fair and open minded, and willing to give everyone a fair shake.
4. I am 37 years old, work as a nurse, live in North Texas (same town as Boogy).
Thanks.

No, you are mistaken. People who want to be moderators in a forum want to help. There is NO power trip. Never.
I applied and did not get it, and the administration here thought it was best that I would not be a moderator. I respect their decision and no, I do not need to put myself on a power trip, I am perfectly happy with my life and just being me.
Please understand that, Exigent. If you have issues with this, please PM me and I will be glad to help if you have problems.
Thank you and purrs,[hr]Damn! Exigent must have deleted his post when I was writing mine. This is damn near embarrassing. Sorry.

I have seen power trips in others in other forums and you are exactly right. Sure, I'd love to be a moderator, but the admin has thought it best that I shouldn't be. Sometimes I am not as fair as I should be, and although I am trying to be better, they know best. They know some people are better at being simply members instead of mods. This is really great --- and it's why I keep on coming back here when I can. I'm a happy camper here!

IMO, people on power trips have issues, period - be it online/offline.
This particular mod I'm referring to on the other forum is well known for his power trips though - a couple here on this forum could probably testify to that. ;)

Political party should not have any effect over a moderator's decisions, or they don't deserve the position in the first place. If we are basing our moderating team on their political affiliation, I may be in the wrong place.

Here is another suggestion. If this forum is not strictly for Americans, or people of north America, then how about looking for a few chaps that are considered balanced folks in their respective regions, such as Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and South America?
Just a thought.

Hello.
Do I qualify?
I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I am not even an American by birth or Nationality, though I lived once in the US for close to seven years.
I live in Canada now, and have never really been a mod of any regular discussion forum. I do not know the guidelines a mod is supposed to follow in order to perform his/her duty.
I do not have too much time to spend on this Forum, but should be able to spend say 2 hours per week, or say less than 20 minutes per day.
My job requires me to travel abroad time to time, and while abroad, I cannot guarantee I would be able to check up on this discussion forum at all.
In all above details, I should be considered unsuited for the job.
However, if you are still in need of a person that is somewht different from the majority here, and if you feel this would be of some benefit to this forum, I am willing to help within my means.
The purpose of my application : I am not really looking forward to being a mod here, or anywhere, and am not sure I would relish it. However, I am doing it because I get a feeling (perhaps wrongly) that this board is in need of a few more volunteers to keep it functioning properly. So I am placing my application more from a sense of civic duty.
Thanks and best regares

Tony has a demonstrated history on this forum of intelligent, bi-partisan thought provoking discussion. I enjoy his debate and I wish that he had more time to devote to the forum but he has other obligations.
In my very humble opinion I believe that Tony would do an oustanding job as a moderator and I second his nomination.
Good luck Tony.

1. 2/3 years on a previous debate forum - I honestly forget how long.
2. Different perspective (being British), generally subjective when considering posts from purely a rules perspective, and try and avoid getting personally involved - ie if someone starts questionning my judgement my usual response is to let someone else handle it.
3. Depending on weekend & work commitments, 10-20 hours per week.
4. 32.
5. No political party - I would say my political views (as looked on by Americans) would be centre-left.

MattW, you missed the brief appearance and unlamented disappearance of GHook93 on this forum. Apparently he posted in this thread and lily's reply was to him, not you.
It seems he was banned after a very short stay. I guess he was the cause of a lot of the departures from V that ended up here, and the Administrators wanted none of his irritation.
His entire presence seems to have been deleted.

I had a discussion with ghook pat, he said he was unaware of who was here at first and had no interest in staying, but he would stop in on occasion to go after those he doesn't like.
I don't like banning people, it looks bad to have too many bans. He had about 5 posts, and with new members simply deleting them is much neater.

Good call, he was nothing but a troll on the other forum, and it sure didn't look like he had changed at all since then. I know there are a few of us that wouldn't have stuck around much longer if he had stayed and did the same as he had over there. :clapper:

Well, I think there needs to be a minimum time someone has been on the forum and *active* before they apply. How many people have come on and been all nice and liked only to go batshit crazy and either be banned or leave in flames?
We wouldn't want batshit. Yes, maybe there should be a minimum, but there are some applicants who have prior experience and admin could see their record at their old places.

It all depends on whether Labrocca needs some new mods.
Tony Mitra, Pookie and MattW are all good. But Pookie LIVES here...

Perhaps. However each forum is different and just because you are an effective mod on another forum does not mean it will necessarily translate here. Someone could be great on an all conservative forum, but suck here due to the fact it has more liberals. The reverse is just the same.

I'd give it 5 or 6 years. In my experience, someone can seem normal for decades, and then totally flip out. I've seen it happen - I have. You're a very wise woman, Anne.

Yeah, maybe not Pookie...
She admits she beats men with 2x4s to force them to do her bidding.
Calls it discipline...

I was joking. I would not be a good moderator. I was really kidding but too many folks took me too seriously.
I would not be a good moderator, as all can see. My joking is too far and I would never, ever be able to be a moderator who can be fair.
We can all see in my posts that I am biased and very unfair. I don't mean to be.
Purrs,
Pookie
I am glad for the comments about me from Zo, PH, and ECW. It is good to be whacked into reality at times, and I thank you all for it.

guys, being a mod isn't all you think it's cracked up to be. it's an unpaid and thankless "job" where you get to put up with b.s. from multiple fronts (although this site seems to have much better harmony than the one i left).

Woooooo, tell me about it, Bishop. I was a mod at another forum before and whew! It's a real job, and no matter how hard you try, you always manage to piss somebody off.
I got whacked from being a mod because I raised hell at another mod for posting PMs from a member and using those against him. What a f*cknoid.
Purrs,
Pookie
PS. Then again, the crazy cat woman might be a real fun mod!

LOL DANG! That's either some well-trained dogs or one kick-ass cat they've tangled with before.
Purrs,
Pookie
Or both.... maybe they were well trained by one kick-ass cat!!

Sometimes we used to let my old cat run around outside if we were out there to watch it. There used to be a german shepard that would walk around everyone yard, but my cat just stood at the top of the stares one day and stared it down. The shepard turned around and never came into our yard again.
Another time it got out and we found it in an ally. It seemed to have gotten in a fight with three other cats. Luckily for them we found her because they seemed terrified, two ran off immediately but she didn't let the third go until we shined a flashlight in her eyes.
At the same time she never harmed anything in the house other than the newfoundland, which she'd whack on the nose or claw it's tail if it got out of line. One time a mouse even walked right in front of her and she just looked at it and did nothing. I'm pretty sure outside she would have gone after it as she was a street cat, but inside she wouldn't harm a fly.
Unfortunately most cats aren't like that.

Well she was pretty big, as she was a large white maine coon cat, and she was pretty tough, as she had been a street cat. We think she may have belonged to some old guy since a guy down the street died and about a week later her we started seeing her every day, instead of maybe once or twice a week we had been seeing her.
She slept in one of my neighbors garages for about 5 or 6 months, but they didn't feed her or anything. She just snuck in every night and they didn't really care one way or the other. After a while my mother started getting friendly with her and one day she went to feed her some pizza, but the cat had other ideas. Instead of taking the slice she jumped into the box, at that point we took her home.
We think she was about 3 or 4 years old when we got her, and we had her for 18 years. This was in a relatively urban area, so outdoors meant small yards, sidewalks and busy streets. A bunch of the local kids had a tendency to throw rocks at her, or any cat, they saw. Being outdoors seemed to have toughened her up, but she never seemed to have any real problems with being an indoor cat.

1. Your previous experience.
I currently moderate a debate based guild on another site that I took over when the former owner left the site for personal reasons. I am trying to get my own debate site up and running as well. Does being a GM for role-playing games count too:D.
2. The reason you feel you would be good for us.
Well, I think I would brng a young persons perspective to the group. I'm not sure of the other's ages really, bu I think 'll be the youngest yet.
3. The amount of time you could assist us per week.
I'm on for about an hour every day during the week at the least, and can spend several more hours on top of that. During vacation times I can spend even more time. Weekends I can spend several hours helping out as well.
4. Your age (this is important).
18 years old.
5. What is your political party? (optional and only asked so we can get a diverse set of moderators)
I'm a registered Democrat.
