What an idiot. Pretty stupid for a general of the Alaska National Guard being soooooo close to Russia and all, not to know this don't you think?
Is the McCain-Palin Campaign Violating Operational Security? (http://vetvoice.com/showDiary.do;jsessionid=27BDDA84A4BF37856630EE5A85 A8CC27?diaryId=1838)

When Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain's Vice Presidential pick, I found it a little disturbing that she told the public that her oldest son, Track, would be deploying to Iraq on September 11. Generally, disclosing the date of deployment is against Operational Security (OPSEC) and illegal.
sh2KOJehXsc
Calling around to a couple of Public Affairs Officers (PAO) who would be handling the flow of information about Track and his unit, VoteVets.org found out that, first, Track is not deploying on September 11. He may be part of a deployment ceremony that day, before going to Kuwait, though one Public Affairs Officer said that any details of the upcoming ceremony hadn't been made public yet by the military.
Governor Palin may have spilled the beans on that one, while showing she doesn't know the difference between a soldier deploying to Iraq vs. one preparing to deploy to Iraq. And while not illegal, if she really did believe that's when he's deploying to Iraq, then she didn't know enough to keep quiet about that to keep from violating OPSEC - something a potential Commander in Chief should know.
But, more disturbing, and definitely in violation of security, are an explosion of stories that say specifically where in Iraq Track is deploying to, which have been dutifully eaten up by right wing websites, and reprinted. I will not reprint it here, because I would only be compounding the issue. But, unfortunately, it is very easy to find on the web at this point.
It is simply impossible that any reporter could figure this out on their own. Just by knowing Track's name and the date he is heading to Kuwait, one could not figure out specifically where Track and his company would be going in Iraq. There's a reason it's impossible to figure that out - because the military doesn't want that information out there. It only serves to aid the enemy to know where are troops are moving.
Did the Pentagon release that information to the press?
No, according to another PAO that VoteVets.org talked with. In fact, this PAO said, the military was actively trying to quash this story, and keep reporters from repeating all these details, because it was a clear OPSEC violation. The PAO was adamant that the military has no idea how these details got out there and doesn't want them out there.
So where is this information coming from, if not the military? Certainly not the Obama campaign, which would not gain anything by promoting Track's service. The only people who I can think of would be those in the McCain-Palin campaign.
If the McCain-Palin campaign has disclosed details about Track's company's movements to gain stories in the press about it, they will have put many American lives in danger - not the least of which would be Track's.
Senator McCain and Governor Palin need to immediately find out if someone in the campaign violated OPSEC by giving a reporter these details, and if they did, the campaign needs to find out where the source got this information from. Whoever that is, is in it deep.

Generally, disclosing the date of deployment is against Operational Security (OPSEC) and illegal.
Disclosing just the date isn't. Now disclosing the exact time and location would probably be.
The war's nearly over. The fat lady is warming up. I'm sure those operational security standards have been loosened.
I can't believe that the same people that likely supported John Kerry made an issue of this. Kerry was a very involved member of VVAW when the VVAW compromised operational security of air strikes over Hanoi in the early 70's. He also was in violation of the UCMJ and articles of the U.S. Constitution by meeting with members of the North Vietnamese delegation in Paris without authorization (while he was STILL a USN reservist). I can spell out each and every article of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and also the Constitutional articles if need be.
The fact that Track may be deploying to Iraq on Sept. 11 is a non-issue. If she had said what unit he belonged to, what flight they would be on, or other key information that could have been used to compromise the unit it would have been different. IMO the PAO that was contacted by the Vets organization put more out there than she did.

Our local newspaper prints the deployment date of our boys/girls all the time.
it doesn't mean they leave at noon and arrive in Bagdad 10 hrs later.

Obviously you've never served. You should really keep your hatred in check and do some research on facts before you spout off complete nonsense.

What...?

Aw RATS! You nailed me. Yeah, true to form, my sarcastic streak showed. And yeah, I do believe it. Cover for a real issue, and strain at a gnat on a non-issue.

You can only have intelligent discussion when you start with an intelligent premise. Instead we started with insane left-wing hatred.

Awww, poor Palin. Shame on those Veterans of the Iraq War for picking on her! It's good she has all of you "men" to come to her rescue.
Bad Veterans! How dare they!
Failed to notice a few vets calling BS here? Twenty years in submarines teaches a little about OPSEC. This is a BS issue. Oh forgot to mention serrvice during Viet Nam

I would have to agree with those who have served their country through military means here. Most vets and combat vets and a good 70% (better than the Vietnam War) vets of the Iraq war agree with this war and a lot still want to go back. This is no jab at anyone who has not served their country in a military mannor but I truly wish only those who have served/currently serving in combat/non-combat situations speak for themselves. Only then can you get a real census without propaganda on what ex-soldiers/soldiers really feel.

Hmmm, I wonder why this thread title hasn't been changed yet?

I would actually have to see proof that the veteran who wrote this article was wrong. They all gave me their opinions, no one has refuted HIS claims with a substantial source. Until that happens, I'll respectfully believe a proven Iraq War Veteran with a long history of fighting for Iraq War Veterans.
You all can have fun slamming me. I know it's easier then trying to refute another Veteran's words. It's also intellectually lazy, but hey, that's your MO and I'm well used to it by now.

From one of my all time favorite movies:
We've had complaints about con men
pretending to be blind and crippled.
I ain't seen nothing since
I stepped on that landmine in Vietnam.
It was very painful.
You were in 'Nam? So were we. Where?
I was in...Sang Bang...
Dang Gong...
I was all over the place, a lot of places.
What unit?
I was with the Green Berets,
Special Unit Battalions...
Commando Airborne Tactics...
Specialist Tactics Unit Battalion.
Yeah, it was real hush hush.
I was Agent Orange,
Special Agent Orange, that was me.

I didn't serve and wouldn't. My family wouldn't allow one of their women to go to battle. The Men in my family are Warriors, not I. They have all served and I've been here to bring them home. They don't fight for the USA, they fight for this land which has always been ours and always will. The Men in my family fought for this land, even when they weren't allowed to vote because they were Native. Five of my Brothers served in the Iraq War. You're welcome to take it up with them, I doubt any of you have the gonads to do so though, but the offer's there.

You must be in the crash position then.
You seem to direct your respect for veterans only in the direction of those who agree with you. Yet, if a veteran disagrees with you they have no gonads? PFFFT.
Secondly, how do you refute a person's OPINION? You CAN'T. The only reason you agree with the "vet" who wrote the article is because his story matches your agenda. The writer of that article doesn't quote any regulations to show where she compromised OPSEC. In fact the PAO's that were "consulted" gave more information than Palin did.
I served for 21 years in the armed forces in several very highly classified operations and this OPSEC prattle about Palin's speech is a non-issue. Plain and simple.

Stooping to insults is most often a tactic used by one losing an argument.
Five of my Brothers served in the Iraq War.
I honor their service and thank them for it. Does the service of a veteran who served during Viet Nam and every conflict since up to and including Desert Shield mean nothing? Must be every veteran before Iraq was a eunuch.
