Poor "Feminists"

Sarah Palin presents a problem for the politically motivated femist soldier.

On the one hand, she's a Conservative Republican, which is a major no, no. You can't be a "feminist" or "strong woman", unless you're limp-wristed Liberal.

But on the other, she is the only chance women have of breaking the almighty "glass ceilings" of being the first woman VP, and subsequently the first possible woman President, for the next 16 years!

Think about it...

IF Obama/Biden win this go-around, then it will be Obama/Biden (unless Biden jumps-ship because Obama screws-up royally :dork:) in 4 years. Assuming they win that, you will have to wait until Biden is up for Pres, and hope he chooses a woman VP (not likely, given his establishment, "Good'ole boy" ways, IMHO), in order to break through the VP "ceiling". Then, assuming again that Biden is Pres, you gals will have to wait another 8 before you have a shot at the Presidency.

So, to get the "correct" kind of woman through both ceilings, it will take 8 years to get the VP smashed, and 16 years to wrap up the Presidency!

However, with Sarah, you could have the VP NOW, and a shot at the Presidency in 8 years, instead of 16!

What's a girl to do? :sadly:

As a feminist, I'm unsure of what the hell to think about this situation.

To be honest, I don't give a fuck what kind of organs our president or vice president has. As long as he/she is capable of running this country during the current phase it is in, there is really nothing more to ask for.

I know nothing about Sarah Palin that would convince me that she's capable of being VP.

She's just a tool for the Republicans to win this election. Aside from having a vagina, I don't think she is intending to represent females.

But I kind of like the fact that she's pro-life. We need a woman who can speak out against abortion!

People shouldn't be deciding to vote for McCain simply because he has a woman VP. That is just absurd. However, this probably will be the reason that some woman end up voting for him.

The whole point of the feminist movement was to treat people based on individualism...not their gender. Seems that anyone voting for McCain because of a woman on the ticket would be defeating the purpose of the feminist movement, because they would be voting based on gender.

I agree that one should be judged by thier experineces and accomploishemnts, and not gender, color or creed. However, if that were true, we wouldn't have a novalty one term Senator running for President. Obama should have been laughed out of the race, but he's black, so he gets a free ride from Democrats.

The Palin appointment is brilliant for several reasons (in no particular order).

One is that Biden is known for being an attack-dog. He's a great competitor and can be very agressive. But he's also a Gentleman, and a Gentleman doesn't "attack" a woman. I think he's going to be a bit mute when it comes to critiqueing Palin.

Second, Palin is a relative unknown. The media is going to be scrambling to "get to know her" which will pull some of the media hoard away from Obama. Plain is now the new novelty.

Third, she succeeded in securing the Conservative base of the party. She IS a Conservative. Even my mother-in-law (Catholic church mouse, anti-abortion/anti-gay marrage type) was excited for this nomination. Even Conservative talk radio was excited, for the most part. She's a member of the NRA (so is my mom:dork:), she hunts, and she runs a business with her hubby.

Fourth, being the Governor of Alaska, she's at the heart of the energy debate, because ANWAR is a key battle-ground issue. She has been close to the ground on this, more so than most.

Fifth, she's come up with some creative ideas to help in the energy crunch. She made the point that not only Oil cmpanies were making windfall profits. The Government also made a shit load of money off the increase in oil prices. Palin took the added revenues, and cut a tax credit to Alaskins! That was a smart and fiscally responsible thing, and blows away any "energy policy" Obama dreamed of.

Sixth, she's not afraid go buck her party or the oil companies. She has a rep of doing what SHE thinks is right, not what others tell her is right.

Seventh, SHE'S HOT!

Seventh, SHE'S HOT!

She's not hot, she's gorgeous!

You make a lot of good points. To be honest, Palin's nomination was brilliant. I realize that. Maybe I was being a little close-minded when I assumed McCain's pick was all about gender.

My young friend, allow me to tell a secret about the opposite gender.

When a guy says you are beautiful, gorgeous, stunning, pretty, fabulous, or amazing, he's really saying "you're HOT! Please make me a lucky man tonight!", with very, very, very few exceptions. :dork:

Do you think the issue regarding her pregnant daughter will impact the campaign negatively?

I think it will back-fire on the Dems. If Palin had brought her family front and center (like Obama did), then the issue regarding a family member would have some ligitemate play. But, she hadn't done that yet. I look at what happened with the Clintons. They kept Chelsea out of the light, so if anybody
"attacked" her, THEY were savaged politically. However, IF the Clintons trotted her out every year and had her making political statements, then I think the public would have allowed a little hitting back.

The Dems should have held this story a bit, and see if Palin was going to focus on "family" at all, then released this. It would have had much different impact.
