For those of you who remember Aidie, my neighbor who sometimes posted here:
Aidie suffered an apparent heart attack early this morning. I was awake and reading when I saw flashing red lights through the bay window, and I ran outside when I saw the ambulance and rescue truck stop next door. I thought it was her husband again, but no, it was Aidie. They had the portable defibrillator out as they put her in the ambulance and the driver hauled ass with lights and siren going. Her hubby said she just keeled over while fixing a snack (she's a diabetic) just after saying, "I don't feel right, I need to sit down."
I'm scared and worried. Her hubby and sister-in-law were going to follow the ambulance when I heard her SIL say, "We'll have to stop for gas, the van's on empty." I ran in, grabbed my keys, and ran back out and said, "Take the Subaru. It's got half a tank," and gave her the keys. They came over and took my Subaru. There was no time to waste.
I don't know anything yet. I'll post here when I do know something. Gods, this is scary. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. I sure would appreciate it, and I know they would, too.
Very sad purrs,
A Worried Pookie

Oh Gods, I don't know what to do now. I am so upset. This is terrible. I do have keys to the van, so while they are at the hospital still, I'm going to fill up the tank. It is Labor Day weekend, I have 3 days off, Aidie was the cook there, so I'm starting on one of their favorites, my sage sausage and wild rice casserole. While I'm out filling up the van, I'll stop at the grocery store and get stuff to fix for them.
I'm babbling. Please pardon me. I'll be back later.
Thank you both. I'm just not me right now. This is a shock.

That is what you can do. Make him some food he can just take out of the fridge or freezer and cook. Bring him coffee and listen to him. Just be there. That is what he will need.

I'm back. This is really terrible. I filled up the van and took our truck to the store, and got lots of food. They will be coming home any minute now and I have the casserole and a fresh salad for them.
They like my cinnamon/apple oatmeal so I'll make sure they have that and bacon tomorrow morning, and all the coffee and orange juice they can hold.
Thank you all!
Purrs,
Distraught Pookie

Do you have pictures of her? We always make up a frame of pictures of the person. It is comforting to look at them and remember good times.

Pookie, I just realized that Aidie had died. I thought you wee just reporting on her ailing health. I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope her husband is able to find the care he needs.
I'm so sorry to hear that Pookie....I always enjoyed reading her posts. She will be in my thoughts.

To all of DF,
I am so sorry for the loss of Aidie. She was a valued member of this community. Her contributions will be profoundly felt and sorely missed. Though she may not have known it or even suspected it, she has deeply touched each of our lives. We come to DF with expectations of each other and the forum to live up to everyday; I was always happy to see her posts and the frequent appearance of her avatar. I can always feel the presence or absence of our members, and it is the same with Aidie. Though it is painful to miss her so, it is also an honor and tribute to the person she was that the loss is so deeply felt.
My thoughts are with all of you as you grieve in your own way. I think this is the first time we have lost one of our own. I am just sad, sad it had to happen and sad it had to happen to her.
Pookie,
My thoughts are with her family and with yours as well. I know you will do everything you can to be a good neighbor and pay tribute to the wonderful woman she was. Please be there whenever you can, not only for them but also for yourself, so you can also grieve. Too often people forget funerals, wakes, flowers, ect aren’t for the dead, they are for the living.

Thank you so very much, Professor. I saved the tag you made, and I thank you so much.
I have been informed by Aidie's hubby that she wanted me to play guitar and sing at her funeral.
And yes, I think this is the first time here in DF that a poster passed. I'm sorry, I am bawling and I can't think straight now and I'm a mess.
Thank you Professor. I will try to get some rest. I am exhausted, upset, unhappy, miserable, and just damn sick about her passing.
And thank you for those wonderful words, Professor. Thank you so very much.
Unhappy purrs,
Pookie

Crap. What a long night. I woke up this morning to make breakfast for them, and it is so weird to be in that house without Aidie puttering around. I made oatmeal and fried up bacon, made coffee, and took over a half-gallon of orange juice. They were so grateful for that, bless their hearts. I know her hubby's favorite lunch is a grilled ham and cheese sandwich and tomato soup, and his sister's favorite lunch is a baked potato with everything on it, so I'll go over and do that. The kids (two boys, one girl) are due in this afternoon. I'm making fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh steamed peas and carrots for their dinner tonight.
When the kids get here, they are going to make the final arrangements for Aidie, and they will let me know something later tonight. I know Aidie's favorite charity is the Humane Society and they've already decided in lieu of flowers, donations to the HS in her memory will be requested.
My hubby is dragging me out for dinner tonight at a Chinese place with a fabulous buffet. He doesn't want me to have to think about our dinner or anything; he is so good to me. When I told him the awful news yesterday, he really lost it. Then I had to tell the rest of the neighbors, and this whole street is miserable. Several of them got together and gave them a very nice fruit basket, and our wonderful Muslim neighbors baked an apple pie for them and gave them a $200 gift card from Wal-Mart. Folks here kind of congregated at my house last night and there were lots of tears. Aidie is such a wonderful lady and a vital asset to our little street, and everyone loves her.
And to think I was upset about them moving to a retirement place. Stupid ass! I never even thought it could be a hell of a lot worse. I'm kicking myself now. How selfish and stupid that was.
Unhappy purrs,
Pookie

I did her avatar, maybe it didn't work. I know her password. I could replace this, if mods will allow me one more time to get into her account here.
This is so fitting for her, thank you, PMP!

Thank you so very much, Invayne. I love ya too!
Folks, Invayne was on phone with me twice and she let me fuss and cry. She and I have been through some rough times together on phone, and she is a wonderful lady with a heart of gold. We have inside jokes together, and although I have never met her in person, I know she is the cat's meow.
It's been a rough night again. Thank you Invayne, for being there for me. Invayne just simply rocks.
Aidie's funeral is on Tuesday at 4pm. I am off Labor Day, and I will be taking a few hours of PTO Tuesday, only working half a day.
If anyone wants to donate to the Humane Society in her name, her name is Aideth Virginia Baxter Hamilton. I have mailed off a donation, and our neighbors have done the same.
Thank you again, Invayne. Thank you for being there for me.

Thank you all. I appreciate all of you. And Invayne, what a sweet tribute to Aidie.
You folks are really terrific to me, and I know Aidie appreciates all the kind words...and us remembering her.
She loved her family. She loved life. She loved her home and her precious yard and her cat, Molly. She was a sweet soul and she is sorely missed.
God bless you, Aidie. Rest well until we meet again.
Thank you all,

Thanks Pookie it helps put in perspective the growing cat fight between my 68 year old cousin Liz/65 year old cousin Martha and my 92 year old mom over assisted living. While I have wanted to kick all three butts I'm glad nothing like what you went through is likely any time soon. my condolences.

Thank you, Jose. Yes, she was battling alcoholism, but she WON. Then again, we'd go back and forth with stuff....geez, she is such a delight. God bless my dear friend.
I guess I'm just not over her loss yet.
Thanks, Jose.
