I just saw Barbara Mikulski on TV and my first thought was "Wow! I know her!" I don't actually know her, but she looks, speaks and acts just like the women in my family, particularly the older ones (70+). She's Polish too, making her seem even more like family.

Anyone who reminds you of family? For myself, she's the first politician who ever seemed like she belonged in my family.

Here's her short speech:

I now know to avoid all Polish jokes, Zo. There is an infestation of politicians in my family as well. A great-grandfather was a Texas state senator, a much more distant ancestor was a member of the Georgia House of Burgesses back in the 18th century. My wife had a first cousin who served in both Texas legislative branches.

As for politicians who look like me, I am ashamed to say that I was mistaken for Dennis Hastert, once Speaker of the House. I lived in his district when I was in IL. I was offended by the confusion, and promptly set about losing a lot of weight.
