Hello, my user name is Professor. I am a 21 year old heterosexual female living in Chicago. I am currently on leave of absence from my college and working. I plan on returning in the spring semester of this year.
I tend to run more on the liberal side of things but I consider each issue with an open mind. I genuinely care about people and whichever way will help people is usually what I go for. I am willing to vote democrat, republican or third party.
On the religious front, I am atheist. I consider religion to be a placebo for every day life. I don't think it's real, any religion. However, I don't have a problem with it, until people start telling each other what they are supposed to do.
I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage and I have some interesting views on the war in Iraq. But I won't go into it now.
Summed up nicely I am against government regulation, within reason and very much for personal freedom. Like a hippie who shaves. :P

Wow I am gone a few hours and already five welcomes! They like me, they really like me.
Elrathin- Thank you very much for the hellos.
Popwing- Thank you. I like your avatar, V for Vendetta?
Lily- Thank you much, and I love the signature. My other favorite is no conservative left behind.
Labrocca- I chose my name because the ones I have for other sites would have been inappropriate here, as this one is for politics and the other forums are not. I also have a lot of respect for most professors and teachers. I hope to be one someday.
askates- Hello to you too, and I love the picture with the Statue of Liberty. Where did you get it?

Thank you wondercow (how did you come up with that username?)
I have a question, when I declare an affiliation, does it mean I can only go into their forum? So if I decide to be democrat I can't visit the Republican forum?
I'm asking because I still want to see everyone's POV but I obviously won't march in anywhere and start something.

No, it doesn't work that way here.......we're free and open ;)

Yes it is. I love Obama, I am currently reading his first book, and soon will start his second.
I really want him to run for president when the time is right.

I think he has a definate calling out there. He seems very charismatic which is important in public office. He is fairly "young" in the political scheme which could help him as well as he doesn't have anything that can be construed one way or another. I would have to know a lot about him to consider voting for him since he is a liberal, but he seems like a decent family man.
How did you like the way Ted Kennedy buthchered his name?

He was on Oprah talking about how he is in Senate a few days a week and the rest of the time he drives the carpool and does the Dad thing. He is also very humble and chooses his words; at a time when there almost no one else uses this tactic I think it's a refreshing change.
I have to admit, I'm on the fence with this one. I don't think he has enough experience yet, but on the other hand, he has no skeletons in his closet yet either.
I've said this every time his name or Clinton's was brought up. I don't think America as a whole will vote for a Black or a woman for president. I do think though if they go through the ranks as being a vice-president first they will have a good chance of running for president...but then that also will have to do with how the president they are serving does and if doing good will have to wait 8 years to run. If doing poorly, they lost their shot.

I am 21 (for the rest of my life), I was a trained FFer, now retired and a union member until the day I die. I grew up in the Mid-West, and settled in the Mid-Atlantic. Because I lived so close to Wash., D.C., I became a trained member of a USAR Team. I miss the active life I once had as a professional, but not the headaches.

Saving a life is oh, so sweet.
Welcome Sharri. Looking forward to reading your point of view.

Thank-you Lily, and Professor. I am a proud Liberal Democrat who realizes that there are many very proud Conservative Republicans and as I like to command respect, I know they too deserve that respect. I am in the unique position to meet many proud Conservatives and Liberals, living as close as I do to Washington, D.C.
I also believe that, though we have labels and proudly belong to the party we choose, that there are many good people from both sides of the aisle and they come to Washington, D.C. to serve their constituents in the best way they possibly can.
