View Full Version : Please stay on topic!

This is not an official site rule yet but I may have to institute one. Lately I am seeing certain members throwing threads off balance with new debates. Feel free to start a new topic if the debate moves into a new direction.

If the trend continues I will make it an official rule..then the staff will issue warning points to those involved.

bah...

Sunflowers too have very long stems, since they're six feet tall.

Sunflowers are huge! I grew up with them in West Texas. Do you know why they are called sunflowers?

Huh, huh?

Professor
11-04-2006, 02:09 AM
Uh, because they're big and yellow like the sun (and big bird)? Or because they need lots of sun?

cs0564
11-04-2006, 02:21 AM
Generally the answer that is given, but not the right one.Â*Â*During the day the "face" of the flower follows the movement of the sun.Â*Â*The flower in essence seems to be in a trance. Alwasy facing the sun until it finally goes down for the day.Â*Â*When night comes the sunflower looks to the earth waiting for the return of it friend the sun.

They do for a couple days. Actually most topics appear to be on topic lately. When this thread was created it was more of a problem at the time. Sometimes people just need a friendly reminder. You do realize this thread is 4 months old.

I agree the signing of Michael Bennett was a good move because now the bucs don't need to draft a RB even if caddy isn't ready to go.

It's a year and four months Labrocca.

And you don't remind us very often.

And you yourself go off topic freely.

And Matt is an "on topic Nazi".

Who keeps things straight.

I'd love to see how organized his pad is...

I think we need a topic organizer button, which reminds us in each post what the actual topic is....I think it should be black with red letters and it should be located 1.3 inches from the left margin and .45 inches from the top margin, it should be a square, not a rectangle......if you don't agree with me, please delete your account.....

Well....I do tend to rant. However it's not "freely"...when I see I am off topic I try to add to the post a topic related response. And dang...you are right...the thread is 16 months old. Pretty funny stuff really.

I think a little latitude should be allowed for those of us with age related attention deficit disorder who quite inadvertantly wander off topic. Oh look, 4 deer just wandered across the lawn, I wonder what time it is in Italy right now...........speaking of flowers, I'm thinking of planting basil and tyme this year...............

What is reality?
I'm going to check with moses and then get back to myself on that question...

Heh. Believe me, PH, it's as disorganised as anything. However, I bumped this thread as I see threads all over this place just degenerating into the usual BS, or various individuals just go off on a tangent and have their own private argument that dominates the thread for the next 5 pages.

Personally, I think staying on-topic is a courtesy to the thread starter, and staying focussed ensures a topic doesn't become a chatroom. :ponder:

PatrickHenry

I am with you Matt W. One of the consistent failures of this forum is the drift off-topic, often fostered by the staff.

I won't name the perps. I know they are recognizable.

sam
02-18-2008, 11:37 PM
I know some staff and membersdo meander on occassion (looks meaninfully at Pres and Pookie) but I do it myself. I don't think it is an intentional diversion; it might not even appear to be off topic to the poster.

Maybe the initiator of the thread could insert a gentle "Hey, I think we're going off topic here" when the posts start to really focus away from the content of the thread.

Pookie
02-19-2008, 12:05 AM
I did on this thread, but I usually don't go off topic in the regular forums. And you can check my posts -- many say "Back to the topic..." or "Back to the original question..."
The only problem with my doing that was the nasty PMs I got from a member who kept asking me if I was the forum police. That got annoying. Good thing that member is no longer here.
That's why I don't do much of that any more. I know if I do, someone will probably do that to me again. I just leave that up to the mods.
Purrs,
Pookie
