"He may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama"
Why would Powell feel a need to explain his endorsement, if indeed he does endorse Obama? :ponder:

Because he's a Republican and he's going against his own party.

Ya think that's why? I think if one feels a need to make excuses as to why they're voting for anyone or anything, then there must be another reason, hidden.
If Powell does lend his name to Obamas election, then we're looking at a person that would probably be in an Obama cabinet.

He's already stated he endorses Obama in this election.

He did? I missed that. Did he explain why?

It would be interesting if General Powell did endorse Obama. The Bush administration fucked him over pretty thoroughly when the neo conservatives played their dirty tricks with Bush's permission. Powell is one of the people I hold in very high regard, and I'd be disappointed if he were to endorse Obama just to stick it to Bush, Rumsfeld and Rice. I'd much rather see him wreak his revenge in testifying against them in a criminal trial after this administration dies.
Whatever he does, I trust it will be honorable.

Another question. If Powell does endorse Obama would some that have called him "Uncle Tom" then decide that he isn't an "Uncle Tom"?

I haven't noticed that many people have called him a Tom, but I suppose it's inevitable when you have a black republican. But his views have always been more moderate and sensible than jerks like Alan Keyes and Clarence Thomas. Those are your real Toms.

"Moderate"
"There ain't nothing in the middle of the road but a yellow stripe & dead armadillos."
Hightower
"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything"
I'll take a ribald leftist over a person that sticks their finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing, anytime. At least I know where that ribald leftist is & I respect that.
I'm sure that if Rice & Thomas were to endorse Obama they'd suddenly become "normal" (back on the plantation) as well.

Powell is a standard-fare black leftist. Of course he would choose the black leftist Obama over the white leftist McCain.

Your judgment is faulty, Defensor. Powell is at best a moderate republican. But I take him to be a man of honor. If he endorses Obama, it will count for something.

If "moderate Republican" means radical racebaiting leftist (e.g. Powell), then maybe you have a point.

Why would he need to explain? Um.....because he's a Republican....but really it's a moot point:
Powell immediately denied the report.
“I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol’s musings,” Powell told ABC News. “I am not going to the convention. I have made this clear.”

I suppose then that you believe that people owe an explanation for why they vote for someone? I just don't understand that way of thinking.
Moot? But you chose to comment anyway.
Well actually, it's a moot point because of what Powell said: (which was in the article posted)
Powell immediately denied the report.
“I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol’s musings,” Powell told ABC News. “I am not going to the convention. I have made this clear.”
...........but I already said that.
