Chavez: Russian Planes Can Sink 'Gringo Ships'
Fresh from his trip to Moscow, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is brandishing his new batch of freshly delivered Suhkoi fighters. According to AFP, Chavez said the Su-30s should be a deterrent to the U.S. Navy:
"Any gringo ship that sails into brown waters (river waters) will itself turn brown and go to the bottom, because they'll not get through," Chavez said.

The Sukhoi Su-30 (NATO reporting name "Flanker-C") is an agile military aircraft developed by Russia's Sukhoi Aviation Corporation and introduced into operational service in 1996. It is a multi-role strike fighter that can perform both air superiority and ground attack missions.
The aircraft is a modernized version of the Su-27UB and has several variants. The Su-30K and Su-30MK series have had commercial success. The variants are manufactured by competing organizations: KNAAPO and the IRKUT Corporation, both of which come under the Sukhoi group's umbrella. KNAAPO manufactures the Su-30MKK and the Su-30MK2, which were designed for and sold to China. Irkut makes the long-range, multirole Su-30MK series. The series includes the Su-30MKI developed for the Indian Air Force and its derivatives, the MKM, MKA and MKV for Malaysia, Algeria and Venezuela respectively.

So which ones Chavez getting? the Su30MKI or Su30MKK, the MKI is better.
The USA F-15E now a bit out dated is still a force to reckon with. It has stealth capabilities, the su30 does not and relies on paintings to throw off radars. Also su30 does not have thrust vectoring. It was tested on Su-37 and in general it was considered not suitable for a battlefield aircraft (too many things to go wrong and too hard to fix).
I will admit the su30 does maneuver very well. But can not match the F-15's ability to to do a reliable supersonic cruise like more than 40 minutes. But still the su30 is beautiful. But it is very smoky!
Now lets talk about the USA's F-22 RAPTOR.
http://blog.wired.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/04/04/f22_montage.jpg
A combination of sensor capability, integrated avionics, situational awareness, and weapons provides first-kill opportunity against threats. The F-22A possesses a sophisticated sensor suite allowing the pilot to track, identify, shoot and kill air-to-air threats before being detected. Significant advances in cockpit design and sensor fusion improve the pilot's situational awareness. In the air-to-air configuration the Raptor carries six AIM-120 AMRAAMs and two AIM-9 Sidewinders. This baby can go transonic and is stealth! The F-22A to cruise at supersonic airspeeds (greater than 1.5 Mach) without using afterburner -- a characteristic known as supercruise.
The F-22 is more advanced then the su30. Notice how it can maneuver better and less smoke? It can travel faster and at greater distances, stealth features witch the su30's have not been able to do yet. Nothing comes close to the F-22. This is our next generation of fighters. But wait, the F-15 holds the record for shooting the most aircraft down in Moder air combat right now.
Watch the F-22 and weep!

In it's combat trials, the F-22 confounded the F-15 pilots that flew against it. They said it was the most frustrating thing to be able to see the other aricraft and not be able to get a weapons lock on it.
The F-22 has the radar signature of a small bird. In other words, you can't shoot what your weapons cannot see.
Never mind the advanced ability of the aircraft to manuver and advanced avionics.
I wonder if this is one of those unproven systems Obama doesn't think we need?

Well there is a possibility of that. They cost $120 million each! But damn, they are untouchable! Hopefully Obama will have advisers with enough sense to tell him we simply can not allow Russia to out tech us in this area!
Watching the F-22 maneuver is like watching a advanced UFO! Russias Su30 is simply no match for it!

Have you ever noticed how Russian aircraft end up looking a lot like their US counterparts, only about 20 years after the fact? Compare the B-1 to their latest bomber.
The SU27 and the SU30 is designed to be able to emulate an F-15, in both form and function. But as the pilot in that one clip said, the manuverability of the F-22 is the only thing that really shows at airshows. Well that and the sound. The plane is incredibly quiet compared to an F-15.
But the real story is the stealth tech and the avionics of the aircraft. It truely is unmatched in the world today and for the immediate future as an air superiority fighter. The F-35 is going to be an ideal compliment too I think. But that is a ways away from production and that system is probably even more vulnerable than the F-22 to any budget considerations.

Imagine combining the vertical landing capabilities of the f-35 to the sheer brute of the f-22. I know, a ways off but we are seriously making break through advancement in fighter aircrafts. The USA remains the one's to watch and emulate in this area! :lmao:

Chavez is an empty barrel making stupid noises. Let him sink one American destroyer or shoot down one American fighter jet. That is an act of war that will annihilate the military in his little god forsaken country. Just try it here comrade, and watch all of your military bases destroyed before you can even kiss your sorry ass goodbye. You will die along with the rest of the military responsible for committing an act of war against the US.
So, go ahead, build up all of the military you want to waste your US oil money upon. It will merely give us more targets to destroy when you fuck up and attack the US. Anyone who thinks Chavez has a military that can threaten the US is wildly misinformed. He would be picked off quicker than a chicken on a Junebug.
He would do much greater harm to the US by selling his oil to anyone else but the US. And the US better wake up and understand this is the real threat to the US, not any military hardware he wastes his money on in Venezuela. If Chavez cuts off the oil, the US will suffer much more harm than his tin hat little military could ever do to the US. This is what the US citizen needs to take seriously, not military toys for his twisted bravado.

I think the US really messed up with the F-22 decision. Now, granted, it is a good airplane, but since we have put all of our eggs into one basket, if they ever figure out how to defeat this technology, all will be lost. They're all basically the same, and they will all be compromised at the same instant.

Given that the Russians are usually 20 years behind us we should not worry too much. They still have not mastered stealth capabilities and that was mastered with the F-15! And the F-22 is simply amazing! By the time Russia catches up to the F-15 we will be up to the F-50 :lmao:

First of all "gringo" ships don't go up rivers, they don'e need to. Second of all, what do you suppose protects "gringo" ships. Clue number one, it's "gingo" planes.
Chavez' rhetoric is as empty as his head. But I'm sure he is good for the Russian economy.
Does anyone wonder why Russia has all these "versions" of their planes? It's because they do what the US does. They sell airframes and not avionics. They especially don't sell the top of the line equipment to third world dictators.

I think it's cool when we can separate ourselves from party loyalty long enough to think outside the matrix and make sound judgment calls.

Because if one ship is attacked that is what they will have to face, American planes.

Yes and they sold China the most stripped down version. China should ask for refund, not worth the money! :lmao:

Yes, but my basic point remains the same. The way the US is configured militarily at this point in time, if any nation deliberately sunk a US Naval vessel, it would be considered an act of war, and it would be dealt with in the that manner. The President of the US, no matter which party he is allied with, would retaliate in kind that would remove this threat from happening again.
My more telling point is that Chavez must be stupid if he doesn't realize he could harm the US far more seriously if he shut off the oil spigot and sold to someone else. Chavez is merely sabre rattling at this point in time to impress his followers.

Chavez knows he can't take on the US militarily. His smarta** comments are meant for his neighbors, namely the Colombians.
