always great to see how the establishment continues to screw our country... we face ridiculously high budget deficits, thanks in large part to the money we flush down the iraq toilet. despite the republican b.s. that iraqi reconstruction would be paid for by iraqi oil revenues, the truth is the exact opposite. and for their part, the democrat scumbag establishment has voted for funding the war in lockstep with the republicans - all parties holding hands to dole out our money, while iraq is able to enjoy budget surpluses that are roughly 100% of the country's gnp! (to put that into comparitive terms, that would be the equivalent of us having a surplus of $13 trillion)..

how good of the voters to nominate two establishment candidates who've played party to this whole affair.

Iraq is not spending much of its own money, despite soaring oil revenues that are pushing the country toward a massive budget surplus, U.S. auditors told Congress on Tuesday.

The expected surplus comes as the U.S. continues to invest billions of dollars in rebuilding Iraq and faces a financial squeeze domestically because of record oil prices.

<snip>

The U.S. has spent more than $45 billion on rebuilding Iraq. And while officials in Iraq contend that much progress is being made, many projects remain unfinished and U.S. troops are still needed to provide security.

"They ought to be able to use some of their oil to pay for their own costs and not keep sending the bill to the United States," said Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Democrat.

In recent months, Iraq experienced its highest oil production and export levels since the war began five years ago, said Stuart Bowen, special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction.

That spike in revenue combined with the highest oil prices in history, "coalesce into an enormous revenue windfall for the Iraqi government," Bowen told the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Whereas Iraqi officials estimated $35 billion in oil revenues last fall, Bowen said the final number is likely to be closer to $60 billion.

"That certainly gives them resources to carry forward with an extensive reconstruction plan," Bowen said.

Well said as usual, Bishop. The duopoly understands that the people are largely too ignorant to care or know about the deficit and debt; as a result, we have two candidates with no coherent, workable plan to improve our fiscal situation.

i wonder if reality that obama (and hillary for that matter) has voted for virtually every iraq spending bill has dawned on his/democratic supporters.. the only one they didn't vote for was the 2007 bill that included a timetable, which was more an act of political theater than anything else.

at the moment, obama's attempting to use this news to his advantage and counting on the ignorant masses to ignore/remain ignorant of his role in the matter. and for his part, mccain has remain mum about this "surge" of money into iraq's coffers. while we sink ourselves deeper and deeper into debt, and lose more good americans to injury and death, iraq's government is just raking in the cash.. outstanding..

This has been going on for years, so much for the "oil will pay for the war" spin that is being sold by the republicans to this day.
It would seem that there would be some kind of safety built into our so called democracy, to defend us from hostile takeovers by AlQuada, Bush, republican con men or other undesirables or pirates.
Just another travesty to prove the incompetence of Bush and his followers. It amazes me that not only it doesn't bother them, they boast about their "victory" ..incredible!!

amazes me just the same that the leading democrats all voted for iraq funding in lockstep with the republicans - even more amazing that democrat partisans fail to acknowledge this fact.

More proof of bi-partisan treason to American intrests, and their own SWORN OATH OF OFFICE....

Electing one of either party to "fix" a problem they MUTUALLY CREATED is like asking a theif to render justice to his partner in crime.... and trusting him to do it....blindly.

Wake up sheeple.

But hey, theu're two entirely independent parties who only work against each other, and the bad laws created by the other party.

That's why so many bad laws get removed when the Democrats, and Republicans switch majority roles, and repeal all the bad legislation the other party enacted.

i wonder if any of the two-party supporters would care to comment...
