Hyderabad, March 2 (IANS) The stage is set for US President George W. Bush's historic visit to this southern city Friday, during which he is expected to announce a $100 million initiative for agriculture research.

Bush, the second US president to visit the Andhra Pradesh capital, will interact with progressive farmers, agricultural scientists and women of thrift groups at Achatya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University and will interact with young entrepreneurs at the Indian School of Business.

The threat from terrorists, Maoist guerrillas being active in the state and the massive protests planned by Left parties and Muslim groups have forced the US security personnel and local police to put in place unprecedented security arrangements across the city.

Bush, who is expected to arrive here at 10 a.m., is likely to have a one-on-one meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy during his four-hour visit to the city. He is likely to formally announce opening of a US consulate here, the fourth in India.

Rajasekhara Reddy and State Governor Rameshwar Thakur will receive Bush and his wife Laura at the Begumpet airport located in the heart of the city. He will then fly to the agriculture university in Rajendernagar, about 20 km from the airport, in a helicopter.

Four helipads have been kept ready at the university, which has been turned into an impregnable fortress. From the helipad, Bush will board a limousine to reach the university complex. Koya tribals from Khammam district will welcome with a dance.

There will be a presentation on the national seed project, one of the several initiatives of this 40-year old premier agricultural university. Scientists from the university will showcase before the US president their research on latest cultivation technologies, seed technology, plant protection and pest control.
