I suppose one of the main things that baffles me about modern day Christianity and especially the one's who claim to be followers of Christ in the Republican Party is how they represent Jesus and the church. As an outsider looking in, had I had no prior knowledge of Jesus and his works, and only relying on the examples set by his followers, my first impression would be that Jesus must be some vile, vengeful, stern God hell bent on punishing all those that did not fall in line with his views. I would ask myself why anyone in their right mind would want to follow such a nasty being. Had Jesus have actually acted like this in his day, I am certain no one would listen to him. They would probably think that he was just a crazy street person and dismiss him as a nut.

From what I read in the Bible, Jesus was of a man who was above all compassionate, kind, and gentile. He spent most of his time living amoung the poor, the sinners, and the outcasts of society. They flocked to him not because he spouted hatred, but because they genuinely felt he loved them. It was by setting an example of goodness and not by ill speach and forse, that people felt that they wanted to be like him. I ask those who lash out against others calling them sinners, perverts, and such, are you being a true representative to the one you hold most holy?

I am guessing you are jumping off of our little minidebate in an earlier debate, so I will continue here.

Someone tries to kill me. Why will I defend myself? Because I have no promise that he isn't going to kill others.

Note: we are all sinners. you. ME. The people reading this. ME. The president. ME.

....You getting the jist of how this is going?

A person is a sinner. they need God. NOBODY is perfect.

This thread has nothing to do with self defense. This thread is about how people treat other people. It is about the image of Jesus that Christians portray. When you see the work of Mother Theresa or how the Amish treat others, the image of Jesus is one of compassion and humility. But when you observe some of the behaviors of more radical Christians such as Rick Santorum, or Jerry Falwell one sees Jesus as the great punisher, hell bent on getting revenge. I would think if these people would just spend more time worrying about their own sins, instead of the sins of others, this world would be a lot nicer place.

Jerry Falwell may be a Christian, but he doesn't represent the best example.
The Amish don;t even claim to follow Jesus. Why do you think that they are considered one of the prime mission fields by every Christian mission board?

The real Jesus was somewhere in between. He is just, but he is also loving. He has a punishment, but he also offers to take that punishment away.
