Markey is not exactly a no-name Democrat. He chairs the House (Select) Energy Independence and Global Warming Committee.

LOL!!! These global warming nuts will do anything for job security, won't they?

I'm wondering if Markey might have shares in Al gores "carbon credit business".

Clearly you started this thread because you don't believe in global climate change. I can't think of another reason, but then I'm just a guy who reads about science and climate all the time.

I don't know how you got that out of my OP. I do believe there's global warming, I do not believe it's man made. I read about science & climate too. I read about the coming big freeze in the 70's as well. There was a time when the earth was a desert, long before the use of fossil fuels, & humans mucking up the place. How do you explain that? We can not beat mother nature, she is in control.
I also believe that anybody that would put Blackhawk Down to global warming (famin due to global warming) is reaching for sure & maybe nuts.

I guess I'm still not understanding you. Why would famine NOT be a result of global warming? It seems to me that next to the rise in sea levels, that would be one of the worst effects of GW. Is there something I'm not seeing here?

I'm not saying that global warming can't be a cause for famine. I'm saying that for a supposedly intelligent person (Markey) to make the stretch of blamimg the deaths of the Rangers in Mogadishu on global warming is ludricous.

I don't mean to be dense here, but if I recall it was sand in the engines that contributed to the helicopter's crash. Drought + dry winds + a relief mission to a famine area would seem to make a pretty fair case for global warming as a proximate cause. Are you irritated because of the person who make the statement? Would it have been better if a republican had said it?

The famine was caused by the corrupt Gov.
Hell they confiscated it all.
What a load of bunk.

The average daily temp in Somalia is 84 degrees, lots of desert, lots of sand, lots of dry wind=what?
That's what happened in Iran when carter sent a mission to rescue the captured American Embassy personnel, "sand got in the engines". Was that due to global warming, or hot, dry winds in that particular climate?

Stealing food & medical supplies by a corrupt bunch of war lords, that was sent to help those people, you're exactly right. There was a famine & that's why Bush I sent the aid. Clinton decided to expand the "mission" into something else & in doing so, got our Army Rangers killed.
But for a US Representative to blame their deaths on global warming is sickening.

If we stopped burning fossil fuels, we wouldn't have been able to send all that food there to be confiscated, but on the other hand, if we stopped burning fossil fuels Somalia would be a lush Paradise producing all the food it needs.
Now that's the sound of one hand clapping.

Between Jimmah & Gore, I'm surprised we have any air left to breathe with all their sucking it up.
