Looks like Muslim Americans have a new Big Brother. (http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/07/10/muslim_profiling/index.html)

And the march to statism troops on to the beat of a silent drum...

I'm not surprised given the ignorance of some in this country.

Will they have to walk around with crescent moons sown to their clothes too?
Hitler would have been very proud.

They are already profiling for anything and everything else, so why not, right?

Are there any rights left they haven't infringed?

If you know of any, please list them on a card and send them to "Trample Your Rights" at FBICIANSA.GOV and they will immediately start infringing those rights also.....Working harder and longer to screw you more completely.

The day after 9/11, all of us brown skinned folks went out and made sure we had our Tribal ID's as well as driver licenses. We knew what was coming. I went and got passports for the four strays in my home at the time. We go back and forth to Canada and Mexico a lot. I knew we'd have trouble and we did.

In a line of about 100 at Boston, only two were pulled aside for a full "random" search. Me and another activist friend from Nevada. We were laughing and talking loudly to each other about the probabilities of 2 Natives being pulled randomly from a crowd of 100. I figured it was about the same odds as winning the lottery. The TSA personnel were redfaced and angry at our comments. Of course, we're activists and we had to make as loud a noise as we could. I wrote down their names, numbers and got the names of their supervisors. Talking very loudly and laughing loudly all the while. We got quite a few fellow passengers to laugh at our antics, which made the TSA folks even more mad. Made my day!

We just have to get through this election. It will take time to rollback and get rid of a lot of the laws that stripped us of our freedoms, but it's going to change. Not soon enough!

This should have happened a long time ago. The ACLU pretends to be for the people when actually they contribute to more crimes against humanity because police and federal agencies can't use credible information to prevent them.

The ACLU pretends to be for the people when actually they contribute to more crimes against humanity because police and federal agencies can't use credible information to prevent them.I don't think you can call up a single fact to corroborate that opinion. The ACLU is about the only organization that takes civil rights and civil liberties seriously, and without regard to your politcs, They even defended Rush Limbaugh, which annoyed me, but I didn't drop my membership.

From what I've seen here and a few other places, the ACLU is just a handy demon for people who don't really have the foggiest idea what it actually does.

I'd just LOVE to see what kind of "crime against humanity" you can hang on the ACLU. :nana:

They take themselves so seriously that they have successfully help tie up our overworked courts with combatants from Gitmo that aren't entitled to the same rights as citizens on our country. Hurrah for the ACLU! NOT.

So what crime against humanity are they contributing to? Equal rights?

I've never read an explanation as to why Gitmo prisoners are not entitled to virtually any civil rights?

As far as I know, the Constitution says nothing about citizenship status. It is a document that limits the power of government. It tells us what the government can and cannot do, period. It does not say this is what the government can and cannot do...to Americans.

doggie you never change. It isn't about them. It never was, we shouldn't torture and deny rights to people in our custody because we're the good guys. I know you can't comprehend this concept, but when you speak of rights and liberty, you should back those words up.

Here's a clue, if they hate us for our rights and we change those rights, haven't they won?

How many of the 9/11 hijackers were Australian? Japanese? Sweedish? French?

Logic tells you that if you're trying to put a fire out go to the building that has smoke coming from it.

I have absolutely no problem with profiling. Profiling is smart. It works. You assess the threat and deal with it accordingly.

I don't give a flying fuck if someone's feelings get hurt. Protecting my country is priority #1.

Now explain why we attacked Iraq even though the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia.

Start a thread about that and I'll chime in. For now stick with the topic at hand instead of changing the subject. This thread is about profiling Muslims, not about why we invaded Iraq.

You are capable of debating without changing the subject, right?

She didn't change the subject. It was a valid point.

Logic tells you that if you're trying to put a fire out go to the building that has smoke coming from it.

So why didn't you? You went to some other buildings a few blocks away and made up some lame excuses to fight fires there instead.

What is the point of profiling Muslims anyway? No practicing Muslim would even think of committing terrorist attacks against innocent people. It's Haram!

So are you going to use that same excuse when the next terrorist attack is done by white guys?

Exactly. Not to mention that the video I saw of the hijackers made it clear that they were trying hard to blend into the crowd. I doubt that they would come armed with a Koran, wearing garb and praying aloud... :ponder:

I think the FBI should start profiling 50-something rich white guys for white collar crimes like tax evasion and fraud, since it's mostly them that are doing it.
