TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Tampa teacher-turned-sex offender Debra
Lafave is free from her house arrest.

The 27-year-old Lafave is the middle-school teacher who avoided
prison by pleading guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old student.
She finishes her house arrest sentence Friday but still has to
serve seven years of less-restrictive probation.

Her attorney, John Fitzgibbons, says she is doing well in her
treatment for a mental health disorder, has completed community
service and paid all her fines.

Lafave has served more than 2 1/2 years of house arrest. A judge
released her from it early over the objections of prosecutors.

Her story captured headlines worldwide, and Fitzgibbons once
told reporters that she wouldn't be safe in prison because she's

I know it's partly driven by greater publicity but it does seem like that there has been a huge increase in the numbers of female sexual predators in recent years and its not just the girls that can't compete with the import market. Is there interest in a separate thread on this subject?

As long as she never teaches again and just confines herself to screwing up her own life.....but given the preferencial treatment she received, that too is probably a pipe dream.

In most cases of female on male predation cops refuse to even take the report. Got an earful a few years back from a cop in the gym. My wife had been reading an Ann Landers column reply that morning and asked how far off Ann was in her endorsement of penile hypodermic injections for impotence. After the usual "girl, you're the one who says no." it came out Gail thought Ann was nuts. Turns out, while uncommon, this treatment had been responsible for at least two gang rapes that had been plea bargained out of the news. Big Pharma was replacing the needle with a ureatha suppository that didn't leave evidence that could be used against them in a civil court. So it turned out Ann may have been out of date in her reply.

Ok, then in that case it would make sense that a 15 year old girl with a "hot for teacher" thing should be understandable too? And we should look at it the same way as LeFave and her case?

Actually you are right in one regard though. Psychologically, girls in their teens are actually more mature than boys the same age and actually better equipped emotionally for a sexual relationship if compared with an adolscent male of the same age.

Whether or not it's fair isn't the point. There is a definite gender bias in the courtroom on this issue. The law should be the law, the gender or attractiveness of the defendant should never enter into consideration.
