Just discovered this site while surfing. I like that it is a site composed of different political views. I am a liberal 47 year old, ex army ranger, and I happen to be gay. I am hopeful of the potential greatness that this country could achieve, yet ashamed of the direction the country is going in now.

I so very much agree with this statement. Often I wonder WHY people think the way they do. This forums has helped me. Sometimes once I understand the WHY..it actually makes me rethink my position although that's tough to admit. hehe.

A lot of people will get very passionate and say they are either for or against something, but it won't mean anything to me unless I can understand how and why they came to believe the way they do from the beginning. I tend to believe that most people want to do what they believe to be right and fair and take positions one way or another out of a sense of being wronged or seeing wrong done in the past.

The people who have posititions at the opposite end of the spectrum from myself intrigue me the most. We all start out life as innocent children , yet different life experiences have molded us all so differently.
