Does it scare you that we are seemingly intent on starting a third war in the middle east?
President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have rejected findings from U.S. intelligence agencies that Iran has halted a clandestine effort to build a nuclear bomb and "do not want to leave Iran in place with a nuclear program," Hersh said.
"They believe that their mission is to make sure that before they get out of office next year, either Iran is attacked or it stops its weapons program," Hersh said.

If it's going to be done, Bush better do it now.
Obama, if elected, won't have any success negotiating (appeasing) them out of their nuke arms program.
That's why Ahmadinejad is endorsing him.

It scares me because of who would be prosecuting the war, i.e. Bush and Co. IF both McCain and Obama were in the loop and said that the attacks made sense, I'd be fine with it.
But to be honest, I do not see either candidate wanting to come into office on the heels of another Bush War. Without some amazing Intel saying different, I just don't think a war is viable at this time.
One other thing, think about the timing. It's almost July now, we're not exactly "gearing" up for another war, not like we were in Iraq. That means if an attack is imminent, it wouldn't take place until late August, early September - less then three full months from the election. McCain's for the war, but has consistently been against how the White House has prosecuted the war. Again, consider who's in charge, Bush the Bungler.
Nobody wants this guy doing anything until we get the new guy, either McCain or Obama. I'm voting for the latter and would trust him over McCain to make this decision, but I would trust McCain MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more then Bush. I don't think Bush should decide much of anything in the future.

"Scare" is a bit of a strong word, but I'm definitely not in favor of the proposal. I say, let it be on Israel's head.
There is no I don't trust much in what Hersh predicts......but I do think that Bush would just love to get that war with Iran in, before he leaves office.

All true........but I can't get out of my mind, just how close we were to doing something when the "attack by speedboats" happened. Perfect timing, Bush was there, thankfully they figured out it was a hoax and Bush didn't have his finger on the button.

It's time to stop this crap about invading other countries. We thought the planes on 9/11 were bad? Try a nuclear warhead or two. Good luck with that.
This shit needs to stop and we need to shut the hell up and mind our own business. We have horrible problems here, for God's sake. Health care, hurricane clean-up and fixing (has any damn body figured out we still have a mess on the Gulf coast?) and gas issues, and the economy sucks.
For God's sake, leave Iran alone. Don't dig a hole we can't get out of. Spend the money fixing stuff here, for fuck sakes.
Shut up, Bush Administration, and get your asses on what really matters and leave other countries alone!
How hard is this?

There are a lot of problems, but soon a new administration will take over. I believe the next administration will deal greatly with domestic needs. Try to be positive if you can, rather hypocritical of me though. Try to think of this as insurance that we wont have to step foot in the middle east again.

Back on topic,
The Bush administration has launched a "significant escalation" of covert operations in Iran, sending U.S. commandos to spy on the country's nuclear facilities and undermine the Islamic republic's government, journalist Seymour Hersh said Sunday.
Hersh told CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer" that Congress has authorized up to $400 million to fund the secret campaign, which involves U.S. special operations troops and Iranian dissidents.
The new article, "Preparing the Battlefield," is the latest in a series of articles accusing the Bush administration of preparing for war with Iran.
So the source of this info on a secret campaign is a journalist with an agenda?
If we're doing supar sekrat spy missions, could we like... not tell them all about it in world wide news publications?

And that is my greatest fear with McCain, that in 10-15 years we will be building not an IraQ Memorial but a whole freaking "Middle East Memorial".
It's time we stopped playing mother hen to the rest of the world (which, news flash, we DO NOT OWN) and dealing with our own troubled internal affairs.
This isnt just a housing bubble burst, but a subsequent retail burst as well.
For close to three years, we were at 100% occupancy; now, our tenants are closing up shop because they simply cannot pay the rent along with the increases in fuel and groceries, and what not.
I despise the clown in the whitehouse. If anyone deserves impeachment, it would be ole dubya; but of course that will never occur. I just hope that who ever wins the presidential nomination has the strength and fortitude for what I think are going to be an extremely tough next 4 years.

Sam, I think you'll just have to sort of overlook ptif. He doesn't listen or participate. He just shoots back without much thought. Some of us have urged him to be a little more open, but he takes even the kindest efforts as personal attacks. We have some other members who feel so embattled that they're likely to defend Bush regardless of the issue, but most realize what a disaster he is.
My great fear is that he will create some context for a strike on Iran or North Korea in a misguided hope of "helping" McCain. His advisors learned long ago not to tell him what he doesn't want to hear.

I don't like the voting options but yes strike on Iran does give me some unrest. Regardless, whether we're part of the attack or not the American public is going to pay when energy at least doubles when the first bomb drops.
Iran is a sticky situation. We don't want them having nuclear capability. Parts of our intelligence says they haven't pursued weapons since 03. That doesn't mean they aren't. If Israel is going to attack they're going to attack and we're going to support them.
We're stretched to thin. We can't engage in another conflict.

If an attack happens upon Iran, it will be by proxy through the Israelis. The Nuclear sites in Iran will be destroyed, and if Iran launches missles, Israel will deal with them. I doubt Iran would retaliate b/c it would probably touch off an intense regional war. However, it isn't like Israel hasn't been attacked with missles before. Israel will not go down in the ME without taking the entire geographical area with it. This you can bet upon because they vowed in 1948 they would never again allow themselves to be placed upon the brink of extinction.

Nothing is sure in an attack on Iran.

Iran would most definitely defend itself. The country has a long history of doing just that.
However, it isn't like Israel hasn't been attacked with missles before.

So you agree that the most dangerous and destabilising influence in the region is Israel?
They have a simple choice.
A) Attack Iran, and in turn be attacked by Iran in retaliation
or
B) Don't attack Iran and in turn not be attacked by Iran in retaliation.
To me, it's a no brainer.

This you can bet upon because they vowed in 1948 they would never again allow themselves to be placed upon the brink of extinction.
I don't know, I don't believe what anyone says, and 'the one's ' that might or do know aren't about to tell any of us the truth. All we can do is guess and hope for the best.

Israel is a big nation, it doesn't need other nations holding its hands anymore at the playground.

Absolutely correct, but we must keep in mind who will supply Israel with the missles to attack any aggressor when they have shot their 1st wad.

If they want to pay cash, and its limited to supplying arms.... more power to them.
Our economy could use the influx of cash right now.....assuming the bi-partisan morons don't spend it faster than it comes in, as they have been.

Can't argue that. We've been helping Israel for years, since 1948-49.(?) They're a small nation but it's not our responsiblity, as you said, to hold their hand anymore, your right. They've been fighting over that West Bank area for years, what good is it. Israel, from a political stand point, is like a 0 in a number, it's a place holder. Now, I'm referring to their government, yes I feel for the Israely people, but then I feel for all oppressed people throughout the world. But we have to start right here in our own country.

My sentiments exactly. Well said if I might add....
