The Word " Service"
I became confused when I heard these terms which reference the word "service":
Internal Revenue "Service"
U.S. Postal "Service"
Telephone "Service"
T.V. "Service"
Civil "Service"
City & County Public "Service"
Customer "Service"
and "Service" Stations.
This is not what I thought "service" meant. But today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he had bought a bull to "service" a few cows.
BAM! It all came into perspective. I now understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us.
I hope you are now as enlightened as I am!

Spoken like a true cynic, Os. Why do you hate living here so much that you think everyone is trying to screw you? That IS what you're saying, isn't it?

well, the way I see it the gov absorbes alot more resorces than they hand out. I can homestead alot more efficiantly with my labor hours, than churning away at my job. Oh, only 1 out of 4 americans really contribute to the common good anyways.
the able bodied think its their duty to slave for a system that doesnt return the favor...
its illegal for me to homestead, why?

Are you speaking of homesteading as in seeking out a square of land and claiming it as a homestead?

I guess I've had a different experience--I got my college education with GREAT help from the GI bill. A GI loan helped me buy a house many years ago. I had a great backup life insurance policy from the gummint until its term ran out a few years ago.
Yes, I've had some intrusions and minor problems. I joined the ACLU some 20 years ago, and I've seen the Patriot Act inflict totally unreasonable limitations on our civil liberties. I even had a kind of nasty scene with the IRS when they credited a payment I made to the wrong account...but I can't rule out my own possible mistake in that occasion.
I'm certainly willing to believe they've brought you grief, but I've had more problems with the bureaucracies of business--insurance compainies, phone companies, big retailers, credit cards, etc., than I have with gummint bureaucrats.

I think the punchline here is service=rape.
Buck, about your experience with the state: I'm glad you haven't had too many problems, but perhaps you've just been lucky. Ever been a minority, someone who uses illegal substances/takes part in illegal voluntary activities, or chosen to withold your funding of the state due to a program you disagreed with? Not everyone has been so lucky...

Firefox, all of those, barring the minority one, are things that you choose to do, knowing full well that they're illegal. It's your own fault if you get in trouble for it.
As for the minority, the state gets a lot of white people whining about how they prevent them from discriminating.

Well, I've been caught speeding. Other than that I can't think of any illegal activities...oh, wait: I occasionally litter. You know those little mints that restaurants often have at the counter? I've been known to drop the cellophane wrappers surreptitiously when I get into my car. I would expect to be hauled before a court if they caught me.
I have known for a very long time that minorities have been the subjects of dixcrimination. I worked in the civil rights movement of the 60s, Firefox.
