View Full Version : Old-style rep system better?
Although its been a while since we had the new forum layout, I liked the old system for reputation points. A user's reputation was clearly visible to everyone, and people tended to spread more reputation around, which encouraged people to make good quality posts. With the new style, people tend to pay far less attention to reputation points, and don't tend to give reputation around as much.
Agree?

It's because vbulletin doesn't have the same type of system. The basic system is a post by post one, which we had once before and was a problem. I tried to get the same system, and asked susie about it, but the best I can do is make it so you can't rep a person multiple times.

Theres always the 'ol Thanks button if its a big deal...save the Rep for truly great posts.

I don't know, maybe because I don't use it enough.....I see something I like and when I try to rep it says "You need to spread it around"......
I agree that as close as possible to the other system is preferable.
Once you rep somebody, that's it. Makes you think a bit. Either one was fine but the post-by-post rep just encourages piranha parties.

I liked the old rep-system better.
I find the new one pretty limited and clunky....not user friendly.
This format for most everything else though, since the update, is much better.

Sometimes when I've already repped someone and they come up with another kick-ass post that grabs me and makes me think (whether I agree or not) I usually PM that person and give "virtual" rep points, telling them what I like about the post.
Members have done that to me, too. I think that's kinda cool!
One question: If we neg repped someone and decide to change our minds and change it to positive, how do we do that?

You have to rep so many people in between before you can go back and rep that one person again.

I believe if you go to your user CP and look at rep given, there is the ability to edit prior reps you have given out. I haven't tried it so I don't know if you can change it from positive to negative or the other way around, but I think you should be able to if its an edit function. If their attitude in general has changed, you can rep them again after you have repped some other people.
Just checked and you can change between positive and negative if you want and you can also delete the rep apparently if you feel it no longer applies.

Not the way this one is set up, ECW.......it's one rep per person, just like the old one.
