Request: when things are moved to FP, could a link to the original thread be given?

Sometimes I'm interested in the original topic, but it's not known even what section it's from, and the FP portion is the one getting bumped to the top, thanks!

Yeah, that's a good idea, Mia. I hope they can do this.

Looking at the move post option, there is no specified place for the link to go. I suppose it could be done in the insert name spot, with the link hidden?

It is a good idea, Mia as sometimes it's hard to find the original thread.

Edited to add.......hidden won't work. It would end up looking like this, unless there is something Zo can do to change things. Looking at it, it's not as pretty as [FP] realestate in Spain[FP]..........but it does serve the purpose. Works for me.

When you move a post, can you go into the post and edit it to add the link to the original thread?

I'll leave it up to Zo how he wants it done.

OR you can just enter the title into the search engine and it will spit out the [FP] title and the original title.

Search engines are your friends, ladies.

..........or we could do that........damn I'm easy.

Ya, that's what I normally do, type it into the search engine.

The only thing I wonder about is whether linking to the thread would make the break less concrete. Honestly I want the FP threads as far away as possible from serious debate. I tried to get FP threads not to even show up on recent posts, but I couldn't do it.

That works for me too.

I've been doing the search engine thing too. I'm just lazy.

I'm lazy too, and the point for me is I want OUT of FP, and into the real thread.

So when a post is moved, the mod doing the moving could post a link in a following post, or edit and add it into the first one moved.

Something to lead people to the real debate.

When the FP one gets bumped to the top over the other one, it lends itself to more responses and continuation of the bs.

Could we just give it a whirl?

It may work the way you want, diverting people out of FP.

That's also a good point, as I would imagine that some people that come here, go to FP first to see who's at who's throat. It would show you where the real debate is.

Want someone to type your responses for you as well as you dictate to them?

Sheesh...

Oh come on, this is a legit request!

Why the rudeness?

Sorry. Wasn't trying to be rude. Just funny. After all you admitted to being lazy. Apologies.

OK, lol, I keep forgetting your sense of humor. My bad!

You're right, I opened the door with the lazy comment ;-)

one thing I would ask.....it doesn't happen frequently but SOME of the mods have been known to move posts to FP without adding the [FP] to the thread title.....thus, when us poor unsuspecting innocents come along we don't realize we now have two threads with the same name......

That is simply a mistake, as mods are supposed to both add tags and reasons. There's no additional thing I can do.

I suspected it was the responsibility of the mod making the move....my comment was more of a reminder to them to be careful than a request to change the board.....

Can we just give it a try - is there any harm in that?

Pookie
05-31-2008, 10:29 PM
Well, sheesh, just get in the post and add the link to the first FP'd post. Would that work? I think Mia has a valid point here.
Just don't tell HER I said that. I have a rep in here.
LOL!!
A bad rep, yeah, yeah, I know.

Well the problem with requiring this is that often I'm simply unable to do so. If I'm on at work I'm behind a filter, and I don't have access to the link itself. I can move posts, but any site that's blocked, and therefore I need the filter for, I can't copy the link.

As for implementing it as more of as something recommended, I can discuss that with staff, though I'm not sure if we will.

Mia

Sure, merely recommended would be great. I didn't mean to imply it should be mandated. (Although if I COULD gain that kind of say-so, I wouldn't turn it down ;-).

Thanks for your consideration to the idea.

How can you be blocked from a site and still move posts IN that site?
You have to be IN the site to move them, therefore you are not blocked.
I know, I use a puter at work too.
That's kinda odd.

Pookie, go to https://www.vtunnel.com and type in a website, then try to copy and paste a link and see what happens.

Pookie

I tried it. Got right in. I don't see a problem, Zo, sorry, I must be missing something.
The only thing I saw that was different was that secure/nonsecure content box and you just click OK on it.

Okay, go here, it all works:

Notice the website you linked to, which is actually DF, brings you to vtunnel. It's slower and you have to relogin. It's not the same link and I don't think it's permanent either, though I'm not certain.

Either way though, I discussed it with staff and we decided against it. You can already search for the thread using the "search" option, and there's the concern that it may weaken the separation of between the FP and original threads, and the whole point of FP is to keep that stuff away from the original threads.

Pookie
06-02-2008, 06:19 PM
Yeah, I use the search engine anyway. Sorry, Zo, I wasn't trying to argue but yes you do have to re-log in. I just had no problem doing it through vtunnel.
That and the secure/non-secure thingy, but I just click OK on that.
Search engine be my buddy LOL!
