View Full Version : Worst Campaign Ad of the Year

... so far, at least, courtesy of Missouri GOP Representative Sam Graves's campaign against his challenger Kay Barnes.
I thought after the recent disaster in Mississippi, Republicans weren't supposed to be relying on the "San Francisco liberal"-style attack that proved so ineffective in that special election. But this bizarre ad -- the three multiethnic dancers are the crowning glory -- is that very attack, only as interpreted by what would seem to be a GOP campaign strategist in the grips of a terrifying mushroom trip:

Here's the ad:

And the response by his opponent:

Looks like an enlightened campaign on both their parts. What fun.

I don't know, I thought the response was good.
Though it's probably the only Republican campaign ad that includes someone who isn't white. Maybe they're trying to scare people in more ways than the gay one.

Im still waiting for someone to explain to me how an oil company paying the same taxes as everyother coporation in the country is giving them a "tax break"... as for incentives to promote domestic production over buying foreign crude... shouldn't someone explain how that is a bad thing.
The only subsidy that oil companies currently get that I'm aware of is $.50/ gallon on ethanol so it can remain competitive price wise with non-bio fuels and I agree that one should stop immediately.
Other than that, the ad trying to tie oil profits to a house representative is not really hones either.
I would give both ads an F. But since they both pander to emotion rather than facts, they are probably both more or less effective with certain audiences.

Well, there's this:

The oil industry, along with the Bush administration, argue that it's unfair to target the oil industry when these tax breaks are available to all manufacturers. They also say the breaks are essential to encourage domestic oil production and reducing the country's dependence on foreign oil.
Again, what tax subsidy or "break" is anyone talking about that is specific to oil companies? This is miore evidence of the same posturing and tossing out phrases with emotional appeal and no substance.

Bang bang, shoot'em up. Welcome to American politics.
I especially liked the black guy is the cowboy hat staring at the white girls tits.
A bit confusing, but nice touch

They both seem typical of bi-partisan politics......
I don't see much to see here except a chuckle at Liberty and the republics expense.....again, typical of both major parties.

Why? Especially when one of the chief rants of racists used to be black men ravaging their white daughters.

Such little pinings of trivial bs. We all know the top slots are bought and paid for with BILLIONS! The ads are primal, and not worth our attention! But to your satisfaction I will say that the ads are stupid, pointless, and not worth our time.
Nice call, but I dont give a dam... I have a chip on my shoulder

What's wrong with you? If you know anything about racism, and the fears racists had, black men lusting after white women, their daughters especially, was a few that goes back a long time.
Read a book or watch a documentary from that time.

I don't need to watch a documentary to know you are imposing something on the video that isn't there, Zo......

post, it's not the first time the GOP would be using blacks in an ad in such a manner. But, second, regardless of intent, I referenced a racist stereotype and you responded in a manner suggesting you were totally ignorant of that stereotype.

not "ignorant of", merely denying the applicability thereof (as well as the legitimacy, of course).....you still haven't addressed the fact that the girl he was checking out was black, thus detracting a bit from your argument......

The way it looks to me is that he glances at the girl on the left, but really hones in on the breasts of the white girl.
