I am wondering, has a study ever been conducted to say, for instance:
most catholics are democrat, and most lutherans are republicans, muslims are democrats and atheists are socialists.

None of these examples are correct by any means, i am just using those as an example of what i am looking to find out? These kinds of studies interest me. Human tendencies are often associated in everything they do.

Take the pollings that shows 31 - 36 percent of the united states stands firmly behind the president. The Evangelicals have no difference between religion and politics IMHO.

Religion should effect how you stand politically, so in a way, religion should be associated with politics.

Religion and politics are always going to be intertwined.Â*Â*As long as you have a free population able to congregate as they will, enjoy the protections of a freely chosen religion and vote you will never seperate the two.

You cannot disassociate, for example, the Roman Catholic's and Evangelical view that abortion is murder from the reality that there is a party more permissive on the issue.Â*Â*You cannot disassociate the belief of "an eye for an eye" from party stances on the death penalty or party leanings.Â*Â*The same goes for empasis on sex education, condom distribution, gay marriage etc.Â*Â*

As long as one party is going to stand with church teachings or doctrine members of that faith will be swayed in that direction.

I have yet to see a major organized religion come out in favor of full abortion on demand, abolition of the death penalty, condoms for kids, teaching of alternative means of sexual pleasure other than intercourse, gay marriage, prohibition or limitation of free markets, greater government control over medical providers and the elmination of firearms in theÂ*Â*hands of private owners.

You can however find a major political party that either outright endorses all of those points or whose indifference or actions are tantamount to an endorsement.

Well, religion shouldn't be involved in politics, but I believe in order to have a well rounded government, your politicians and leaders must have character shaped by something like moral religion, or at least proper ethics with old world honor at heart.
