Because Canada just betrayed one man:

Canada to deport first US deserter of Iraq war
22 hours ago

OTTAWA (AFP) — Canada is set to deport in June the first of possibly hundreds of American soldiers who sought asylum to avoid military duty in Iraq, a group backing the US deserters said Wednesday.

Corey Glass, 25, came to Canada in August 2006 after serving in Iraq as a military intelligence sergeant.

Authorities told him on Wednesday that his application to stay in Canada was rejected and he would be deported in early June, a spokeswoman for the War Resisters Support Campaign told AFP.
According to the group, several hundred Iraq War resisters are currently in Canada, many of them living underground. Glass would be the first of them to be deported, it said.
"This goes against Canada's tradition of welcoming Americans who disagree with policies like slavery and the Vietnam War," said Lee Zaslofsky, a War Resisters Support Campaign coordinator.

A report from 2005:

Military Deserters Flee To Canada

In fact, less than 1 percent have deserted. According to the U.S. military, there have been about 6,000 deserters from the Iraq war. Of those, about 150 have made their way to Canada seeking refugee status.

Russia should spend time dealing with its rampant alcoholism, but if they wish to take on military deserters, more power to them.

Russia has more problems than a math book, but if they want to, have fun.
How many will come flocking to Russia?
I doubt many will at all.

In Russia, an army of deserters
A model program for military reform stalls due to lack of funds and personnel.
By Fred Weir | Special to The Christian Science Monitor
MOSCOW – Anatoly deserted from his Army unit just two months after being inducted, after he and other conscripts were beaten with shovel handles by older soldiers during an "education session."

The 19-year-old says the new draftees were told they had to "earn their keep" by begging and breaking into nearby civilian homes to steal money and valuables. "I'm not against Army service," says Anatoly, who was assigned to a unit near the central Russian town of Narafominsk. "I'm willing to serve in any other unit, but not that one."

Anatoly, and thousands more like him, are a sign that the Kremlin's ambitious effort to reform the military, announced a year ago, may be running out of steam.

Breaking decades of secrecy on the subject, the Defense Ministry conceded this month that 2,265 conscripts deserted in the first half of this year.

But the true number is more like 40,000 annually, according to the Soldiers' Mothers Committees, the only public organization that aids deserters.

Could you present some sort of argument for or against, December?

I mean really, the ones who went to Canada knew that there was a commitment to not offer them asylum there.

But why should Russia step into the gap for those who don't want to participate in Uncle Sam's endless wars? After signing up?
