View Full Version : Appeasement and who started WWII
Just a quick quiz, don't google the answer or post it on this thread until after the first 10 posts.
I've been more than slightly frustrated by Bush's ignorance with his 'appeasement' speech from Israel:

It is strongly necessary to correct some historical misconceptions.
Firstly, exactly who started WWII?

Davo, maybe you'd better go back and look some more for the beginning dates. The consensus among historians is the WW2 stated with Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939.

Why poll something that has little relevance to the events?
"Starting a war" and "a declaration of war" are two discrete occurrences.
WW2 started with Japanese aggression in China.

Most of us tend to think in terms of the war in Europe. Two questions about the Japanese in China: were they in league with Germany at the time? And did it begin before the Spanish Civil War, which was certainly an important precursor to war in Europe?

Appeasement and who started WWII
Appeasement is normally associated with Chamberlain prior to WWII.
WWII's beginning was 1939, or is most agreed upon by the history books. Although there are some that will want to argue that.
There are strong arguments for Japan/China, 1927, I believe, and I have also heard/read that WWI never really ended, we just had an intermission. Whatever, why does it really matter?

Who ever failed to discipline Germany for violating the treaty. Just because war was not in Europe doesn't mean the world isn't at war. They Euro's have a thing about the axis powers hahaha.
