The parents of two teenage boys brutally attacked after revealing their faith spoke exclusively to ABC15 about the incident.

They did not want their names published because they fear retribution.

The father of one teen says his son has a broken collarbone and several lacerations on his face and back.

“He looked like he's been in some kind of a brawl and got the worst end of it. (I’m) just not used to seeing any of my kids in that situation no parent should see their kids in that kind of situation,” said the father.

The mother said, “I just broke down I just couldn't believe the way he looked. It was like surreal it was like something out of a bad dream and we just wanted to wake up.”

The parents said their daughter, who is their son’s older sister, witnessed the entire fight leaving her traumatized.

The mom explained her daughter was at first trying to stop the beating, “She tried, she screamed a lot, but this person was so into the beating he didn’t want to stop. She could not believe what she saw happen.”

The mother added by the time they got to the scene her outgoing daughter, “…was completely in emotional shutdown, fists clenched.” The mother plans to get counseling for her son and daughter.

“We received a fire call from the Fire Department saying they are treating my son for the injuries,” said the father of the other victim. He added that his son is suffering from a broken nose, fractured cheekbone, and several lacerations.

“I think the most important thing we could do as a society to avoid these types of things is for parents to be responsible for the raising of their children, “ he said.

On Wednesday night at a Gilbert Human Relations Commission meeting a Gilbert Police Lieutenant read a report about the attack.

He said there were junior high school-aged children playing in a pool with “Airsoft” pellet guns.

He added they were curing and using profanity.

The Mormon teenagers were playing Frisbee.

According to the Lieutenant the Mormon victims walked over to the pool to ask the kids to quiet down and clean up their language.

The kids responded by asking if the victims were Mormon, the victims said “yes”.

That’s when police say the junior high-school aged children began to fire pellets at the Mormons, taunt them, and spoke Mormon slurs.

Shortly after this a truck pulls up with some high school-aged teenagers.

We now know two of those are Mesquite High School football players.

Police believe one is the older brother of one of the younger kids in the pool and are investigating if he thought he was coming to the defense of his younger brother.

Due to the time span between the Mormon question and the attack Police say they still are not certain this was a hate crime.

They say it was fifteen minutes from the time the kids asked the question to the time the attack started.

I hope it's not a fricken hate crime, because I hate 'hate crimes'. The kids were assholes, period. They need to be charged with assault, period.

Mia, we've been taught by the republican party to hate those that are different from us, and we've learned the lesson well.

Please don't say 'we'!

I'm a poor student, I guess ;-)

In this case, it's not necessarily the republicans. The southern Baptists are pretty down on Mormons, too. I'd guess that some of McCain's "spiritual advisors" would call Mormons cultists as well. Never underestimate the power of one cult to hate another. :ponder:

Why do y'all assume they hate Mormons?

The question 'are you Mormons?' as stated in this article here, understandably leads some to believe that is why they were beaten.

However, the question was actually a natural one. I spent time in the Phoenix metroplex, specifically Mesa, Gilbert, etc., which has a large Mormon population. When you come across someone dressing and behaving very modestly, and asking others to, it's the first thing you're going to wonder.

In fact, since I dress modestly I was assumed to be one. Anyway, it's not clear that the beating was a result of them answering 'yes' or simply because they had requested the boys to alter their behavior, and the boys were bullies. They beat them up simply for daring to cross them.

The Obamas and their minister are Republicans?

Where does this story say anything about republicans?
Maybe the kids were just anti-religious.
Mia, we've been taught by the republican party to hate those that are different from us, and we've learned the lesson well.Sounds like some have been taught to hate republicans because they believe different from them.
This is demonstrated right here.

Of course, your speculation about McCain's "spiritual advisors" (sic) is unfounded...unlike Barack's...but of course...most of the Left's attacks in defense of Obama's outrageous and inflammatory racist personal minister have to be invented...

As for it not "necessarily the Republicans..." No CHIT! Ever been to Gilbert? I have...It's been one of the fastest growing cities in the US for a while now...and there's a Mormon church just about every ten feet! Mormons are the largest religious demographic there, and FYI the community is HEAVILY Republican. The Mormons there vote Republican by at least 4-1...so it would appear that since the Mormon kids are portrayed as the "victims" of the hate here...Potter's assessment is actually totally false. As if that's a surprise! LOL!

Damn, Easy, yer right! I don't know if Hagee and that other dude would call Mormons "cultists." But I do know that when the Southern Baptists held their convention in Salt Lake City a few years back, the Mormons were offended that they went out proselytizing. I'd say that's a fair to middling indication that these two doofuses that McCain has linked up with would prolly be of the same opinion.

By the way, a significant number of the members of Trinity United Church of Christ are white. Of course, you're free to call them self-hating.

Now Easy, I have a question for you: why is it that you accuse everyone who disagrees with you of being either a liar or an idiot?

Sensitivity training:

If a Mormon politely requests that you refrain from vulgar language, you have several options, none of which involve violence. Option 1: Politely assent. Option 2: Brusquely assent, making clear your annoyance at the request. Option 3: Decline, and continue speaking as you please. If the request is made rudely, Option 1 is no longer an option. If the request is not a request at all, but phrased as a demand, all that remains is Option 3(b): Decline in the most vulgar terms possible, and if all present are adults, begin loudly relating detailed stories of recent sexual conquests along with sound effects and voice impressions.
