Let's get the ball rollin'!
I'm Jacob, 17 and have recently been accepted as an Airfield Defence Guard in the Royal Australian Air Force. I belong to quite a few military forums across the Internet and thought a change for Politics would be nice. I am also the owner / admin of AusDefence.com (http://www.ausdefence.com/) - a political / military forum focusing generally on the benefits for Veteran Defence Force members who have come back from duties overseas. Site has only been up for about 5 weeks, but we're getting there.
That's about it, really! Love the site, love the theme and look forward to havin' a good old chat with ya'll!

Well okay...
Why do aussie kids join the military?
Pay, college, benefits, patriotism?

For the same reasons individuals join in their 30's - to protect the National Interests of their countries. Plus, we are extremely proud of our nation. Without a nation, where could you possibly find Patriotism?

Gotta admire youthful entusiasm.
At age 58...I prefer cynicism personally, though.

Unfortunate some in America equate patriotism with jingoism and the ugly side of nationalism.
Personally I don't understand why, but it's true.
Welcome to the DF.

Not a bad attempt.
Try to keep it more laid-back, though. If you try too hard to replicate the Australian humouress slang, chances are you'll get laughed at for a terrible impersonation of a Pom.
