Right before I got in the shower this morning I went down to the basement to check on my sister's cat. I found her lying her the stool...

...but she died sometime last night.

I went upstairs to tell my dad and he was like "oh no," then he called my mom and he put the cat in a bag so we could bury her later. I tried not to cry in front of him so I did when I was in the shower. I heard my mom come home with my sister and they were both in tears too. I felt sick when I broke the news, I felt my heart just disappear and now there's another empty spot.

The loss of a beloved pet can be hard Mic. My condolences.

I'm sorry to hear that. People often underestimate the connection people have with pets, and that can make their loss even harder. Did you have any time to prepare or was it unexpected?

Sorry for your loss, mic.

I know how it feels, the emptiness of realizing the little fuzzball won't be lookin for love no more. I say a prayer over mine when I bury 'em.

Best thing? Keep an eye out for a kitten...

You're awful sensative for a guy. Sorry just the first thing that came to mind, I'd cry too.

Oh Mic, I am really, really sorry. I wail like a banshee when I lose my pets, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with caring about and loving them.
I'll pray for you, Mic. I really do feel for you, and I am sorry for your loss.
Sad purrs,
Pookie

It was really out of the blue. She was breathing harder than normal the night before, I thought she was gonna cough up a hairball because that's what she does before doing that.

But then we got the cat about 10 or 11 years ago so I guess it was just her time to go. I'm still heartbroken though 'cause I took care of her like she was my own.

Anyway we're having a funeral for the cat tonight.

Sorry to hear about the death of a pet, that is a harder thing to deal with than some people realize.

I feel like I just buried my daughter.

There's no shame in crying for a loved one, even if it is a pet. I almost never cry but when I had our beloved cat euthanized I cried like a baby. So did the big, tough-looking guy who was there to do the same thing with his dog.

I'm sorry for your loss. There's no shame in acknowledging the pain of that loss and the importance of that pet in your life. Pets are part of our families - they matter.

As others are saying, that's completely normal mic. You have no idea how many people, men and women, of all ages and sizes, I've seen crying at vets. I've done the same myself on multiple occasions.

Me too. Both my hubby and I have bawled our eyes out over losing our pets. That really is perfectly normal.
In fact, I would worry more about you if you didn't have these feelings for your pets, Mic.
We're all thinking of you.
Prayers and thoughts are out to you,
Pookie

Thanks yall. If only your words could fix everything though....

Fascinating thing my aunt told me, she actually cried when she and my uncle found out and she told her co-workers and they (well "all the white people," as she put it) were crying too.

Nothing is going to "fix" this. Time will just make it hurt less and less. That's the only fix. I lost my dog a couple months ago. I still miss him horribly, but it doesn't hurt like it did. I can now look at pictures of him and smile instead of bursting into tears. It's not "fixed" but it's bearable now.

Losing a family member, and just because it's not Human doesn't change it's status, is always hard. :sadly:

I'm sorry to hear this Mic. I don't even want to think about the condition I'm in when my dog [14 years old] dies.
