This has to be a first. Husband comes home earlier than expected; finds wife in boyfriend's truck in driveway with her legs up. She yells "rape"; he shoots the boyfriend; she is found guilty of manslaughter and he walks. Did he honestly think he was defending her?

Whether or not he was "defending her", he most likely wouldn't have shot at the man had he not thought his wife was a victim of having her rights removed via force, as opposed to simply being the worthless lying slut she was. ;)
I don't see much wrong here, myself.
She instigated the shooting by claiming false claims to her husband, provoking a rage reaction she MAY HAVE KNOWN would occur, since she knows her husband well.

I don't have a problem with the verdict. The wife set the whole ball in motion - first with her invitation to her lover, then with her false claim of rape.

The poor guy did think his wife was being raped. However, she had gotten out of the truck and he fired at the truck as the guy was driving away. Hardly seems like he was defending her or himself under these circumstances.

He was fleeing the chance of apprehension for comitting a violent crime using force against the will of another....
He had a right to make a citizens arrest, and the case could be made that he shot out of rage based on the testimony of the wife to rape. While that would not "excuse him", it would certainly affect the eyes of the jury, regarding the context of the situation.
Also, it points to the fact that the wife was ENTIRELY to blame for the fate of both men, so she should be the one to serve the sentence, don't you think?

What the hell? This is totally crazy. So the hubby thinks his wife is being raped....ok.
But why was the wife in this guy's truck if he didn't force her?
And hubby should have taken wife to the hospital.
Geez.

If this happened while the deed was going on and he really thought his wife was being raped.. then I could see the police or the courts or whoever decideing he was protecting...
But if the man was fleeing.. then the "supposed" rape was finished and nothing can change that.. He should have got a plate number.. took his wife to the hospital and called the police to have him arrested.
The man doesn't have the right to take the law into his own hands...
The wife may be a snake, scum, ho-bag, bytch... but.. he still has no right to shoot at the other guy much less kill him after the "supposed" criminal offense has taken place.. the woman wasn't in the truck when the man was shooting at the other guy.
I do believe she should suffer some punishment for the false claims of rape.. and I'm even fine with it being manslaughter.
But, I think this guy got away with murder at the same time.
If it was my wife?.. what would I do?.. Prolly shoot the bastard...
No doubt I would get murder charged tho on me tho..
I'm betting this isn't the way things would happen every time..
I'd even bet if this happened say,,, 10 times .. all the same circumstances.. and in all different places of the usa.. you would see different outcomes..
This is Texas we are talking about..
But if this happened in Massachusetts or Kansas?.. <---( hypothetical states..)
The lady could walk and the guy could get the death penalty
