This thread is an attempt to show you that the republicans are not at all the party of family Values as they would like you to believe.

My first to show how this is true:

Giordano Receives 37-Year Prison Sentence
Giordano Could Have Faced Life In Prison

POSTED: 10:32 am EDT June 13, 2003
(http://www.nbc30.com/news/2268479/detail.html?topstories&id=56414,00.html)

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Philip Giordano, the former Waterbury mayor convicted of violating the civil rights of two girls he sexually abused, has been sentenced Friday morning.

..snip

"This case is the worst I have ever seen," said U.S. District Judge Alan Nevas in passing sentence. "Your conduct is the worst I have ever seen. I've seen drug dealers, murderers. What you did is indescribable."

...snip

"Most defendants have something to say, if nothing more than to turn and look at your mother and your sister and say, 'I'm sorry.'"

Nevas said Giordano had been "preying on two small, innocent children."

"They knew nothing. You, sir, are a sexual predator."

Giordano also was convicted in March of conspiring with a prostitute, who is the mother of one of the girls and an aunt of the other. Jurors convicted him on 14 of 15 counts of using an interstate device -- a cell phone -- to arrange the meetings with the girls.

Prosecutors said that Giordano used his cellular phone -- an interstate device -- to set up liaisons with the children and a convicted prostitute, Guitana Jones. Jones pleaded guilty to federal charges and testified at Giordano's federal trial.

CT is the perfect example of what the vision of socialist elites have for the rest of us.
Concentrated low-income, crime ridden, uneducated, Govt dependent populations in the cities who are suffering beyond belief, looking up to all the hoity-toity rich white folks sipping pino grigio in their bucolic gated communities for some crumbs to fall from their lace table clothes for sustenance.

All the elites want is for the 'dirty people' to be undyingly grateful and stay the hell away from them and their debutant private school attending daughters.
Beyond that, they don't give a rats ass about them.
They say they care, but if they did they would stop shoving Govt dependency and liberalism down their necks and unshackle them by introducing them to conservatism and capitalism, as well as charter schools and vouchers, but that might result in some of 'them' moving in next door. We can't have that, can we?

Pres, I've gotta say, as former CT resident, you've got it wrong. In fact, they only thing you have right is the high tax part. There are two parts of the state which are 'crime ridden', the New Haven/Bridgeport area, and Hartford [East and Downtown, West Hartford is very nice]. CT is a very well educated state [top 7 i believe in terms of % with a bachelors degree]. And it is fairly wealthy across the board. That said, the cities are very, very liberal and are in very, very bad shape.

But CT was and is a very nice place.

Well, NC, I had the experience of growing up in New Haven, so I saw the state from that pov and my view could very well be jaundice.
I hear it is a little better now, but I saw first hand how the liberal policies destroyed the poor and minority family in my community.

I remember the Govt housing projects, dangerous/ineffective schools, high violent crime/prostitution and block-long lines to the methadone clinics.
The attitude seemed to be "They are incapable of taking care of themselves, the American dream is just to complicated and they aren't responsible enough to be trusted with their own freedom. Let's just give them enough food and drugs to keep them from rioting and away from our privileged life."
I found this attitude condescending, elitist, disgusting and evil. An example of man's inhumanity to man and patronisation to a harmful degree.
...I may have a biased attitude. (Ya think?)

Chalk my previous post up to a bitter anti-CT rant! :)

And the parts which aren't nice are even smaller. I'm not sure what point you were trying to make APDST...Or maybe that was a joke? I can't tell, dry humor is hard to pick up over the internet [which sucks because my sense of humor is incredibly dry].
